when you try to crank and get nothing, does the fuel pump run?

if so, when it doesn't crank, try unplugging and jumping the clutch switch.

if not it might be security related.

Yes, I roll start it about twice a day lately, so it's getting fuel, spark, and timing... That reminds me, I need to order a shop manual.

check to make sure all the wires are tight, at the battery and starter.
when it wont crank, does it click, or a clunk sound?
Definelty something in the starting circuit, probably a starter or solenoid
Good luck and let me know how you make out.

no clicking or anything. Tonight I tried a few simple things and it started ok but it had been tonight. I tried turning the key without pushing in the clutch and it seemed to be exactly like when it won't start. I wiggled the wires on the clutch pedal and those relays (ign/starter) and the fuses in that block. Those relays, you pull them straight out no trick? I couldn't get them but didn't want to try too hard.

Sounds like a bad clutch switch.

so far so good. It's started every time since. I'm parking in the garage again. :-) Now I just have to wait for it to happen again to narrow down exactly which it was, or maybe it won't come loose again. I'm sure it will. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm so glad I was able to get back to normal for free :-)

thats good to hear jay. it always blows when ur baby wont start. luckly the only time that happened to me it was a bad battery.

check and make sure the security light isnt on when it happens, i bet its the vats system. The little wires used to check the resistance of our keys sucks donkey balls and always breaks. If the pcm cant read the resistance of the key, you go nowhere...

Shooter_Jay Jul 31, 2005 08:48 AM

that's what I had heard so I was going on, but then I noticed that even when it starts correctly, the security light is on when the key is in the start position. I'm pretty sure it's either the clutch switch or the starter relay because those are what I wiggled and now it seems fine, many good starts in a row.
