ditch the PCV... don't let it soak your nice new intake!

davered00ss Mar 11, 2006 05:46 PM

I was thinking about the PCV system. I did find oil in my old intake & TB.

Slowhawk Mar 11, 2006 09:15 PM

You don't have to get rid of the PCV.It actually does something being on there :)

JL ws-6 Mar 12, 2006 04:22 AM

yes.. it fills the intake with oil. It does nothing a breather won't accomplish.

davered00ss Mar 12, 2006 06:25 AM

I've seen breathers at work. I'll keep the PCV. Thinking about the Z06 mod?

Keep reading :) It does more than a breather.

davered00ss Mar 12, 2006 07:23 AM

Something to look at when I do heads.

JL ws-6 Mar 12, 2006 07:28 AM

No thanks.. I'll be ripping that junk off and putting a metco on. No way in hell with the way I change oil it going ot matter. The oil in the intake.. a way bigger problem IMO.

davered00ss Mar 12, 2006 07:58 AM

I know there is some sort of upgrade to an LS6 PCV system.

JL ws-6 Mar 12, 2006 08:06 AM

That along with a catch can still gets oil into the intake. The only wao to stop the oil vapors from getting in the intake and glazing it over is to not have the fumes be routed back into the motor. I know about teh emmisions blah blah.. but I think that once you've out a cam in a car, you're pretty much throwing that out the window IMO. Yes a breather will aloow moisture into the motor, like it allows teh vaprors to escapt the crankcase as pressure is developed, but if you change the oil like I do, about 4 times a year, and that is with about 2500 miles a year on the car, it's probably of no concern.

davered00ss Mar 12, 2006 08:23 AM

Yah, I change the oil every 3 months regardlsee of the need.

lilstephsls1 Mar 12, 2006 09:22 AM

looks good dave! too bad you didn't stop by dons yesterday it would have been nice to see ya there

BLASTER Mar 12, 2006 09:25 AM

It has been said that the PVC aids in sealing the rings. If you have a bad consumption problem, hook up a catch can and/or convert to the LS6 valley cover/PCV system.

thechef Mar 12, 2006 09:35 AM

if you have a consumption problem go to the dealer and ask for the truck pcv valve it has a smaller hole than the f body one and is listed as a "fix" by GM, i did a catch can first and it helped some but not that much i did the pcv and it helped ALOT

99zman Mar 12, 2006 09:38 AM

pcv valve from what truck? thanks

peterock98 Mar 12, 2006 09:40 AM

If Gary had waited for me I would have gone to Don's yesterday.

But then the intake would not be on the car. :emb:
