Slp you might not want to run that big of gear to start with. Low rpm sleds need to run more gear to mph. A high rpm motor you dont need to run as much gear. Increaseing the rpm of a motor increases the gear ratio. if I remeber correctly a 500 rpm increase makes the sled have a 10% higher final drive line ratio.
This is what i run into on my 1425 on nos. It is a low rpm motor and I run 25/39 for 660. The clutches are fully open but not into overrun. The big gear give you lots of belt slip which isnt good on a 350hp sled. the same happens on a lower hp sled too. Ive done a bunch to try to keep the belt slip to a min. Havent broke a belt yet. Bearcat, Bigger drivers and **** Load of Clutch weight. It works for the most part.
For my personal asphalt sleds my gear cutoff is 24/39 i prefer 23/40. But my sleds peaked at 8400. I havent ran a newer Low RPM motor 8000 RPM and LEss power peak.

I definately understand. This sled was set up for grass (500ft) and achieved 85+ MPH with the 19/43. It only makes about 150-160HP. If I remember correctly, she likes to run about 7800RPM. I was running a 600 stocker - 440 stocker and this 700 Improver - I can't remeber which is which though... gotta break out my notes.
I've done the grass too yr's ago. Stock 700 and Pro-stock 585 its been a while. I assumed an Improved 700 would be higher Rpm than that. But if not you might be able to run big gears.

Sweet... keeping our together for one more grass event. I have been prepping a new chassis for asphalt - just a matter of swapping the motor over - figuring some clutching out and next year my first attempt on the pavement!
