Default What to do with junk car?

I have a 96 forc contour with 135,xxx miles that needs a new transmission. The transmission cost more than the car is kbb'ed at.

I know no one will buy this car, so what should I do with the car to make some money off it?

If the trans works at all I am interested. I run enduro/ figure 8 races at Seekonk and am looking for cars for next season. Prefer full size rwd v8 but beggars cant be choosers. I can pick up.

Edit Just noticed your location.. a little too far ..

Here's a 2nd vote for donating the car for a tax write off. I have a 98 Ford Contour with 165,xxx on the odo. Car still runs nice. I did replace the tranny though. But I haven't had any other major issues with it. I do need a hub cap!! I haven't had a chance to pick one up to replace the one I lost on the potholed streets of Boston!

when i was in college, some of the fraternities would have a 'car bash' event. get an old car, and give a bunch of freshmen axes, sledgehammers, etc and beat the **** out of it!!! soooooo much fun!

you could always see if the local gun range wants to buy it for target practice!!

As fun as the car bashs are I remember my dad who went to college in the 70s said places were starting to outlaw them for safty reasons, so you might want to look into any legal risks of broken glass being hucked around.

Donate it gets my vote, I donated my jeep it now is a ambulance for injurded wild life so if you ever see a red tail hawk with a broken wing flopping about a black XJ will come to save it.

Never thought of donating as a tax write off, I'll look into that. About the junkyard buying it, I dunno hwere I'd start. I used thge car as more or less a trash can and transportation to and from KFC. I mean I can clean the trash out, but I don;t think that chicken smell is ever comin out.

get a junkyard tranny, and donate it somewhere. My grandmother donated her total peice of **** 82 plymouth reliant to the local pigs in my town. You couldn't sell that for $400, yet she got a $1600 tax write off for it. Used it as an 'undercover car' for a few weeks till it finally died. Haven't seen it since.
