for street trim, get the bfg kd. they are sweet tires, i run them on my vett. good traction, but not enoph to blow the rear end.

Khumos are junk. Not even comparable to the BFG/Michelin tires. Hence the price...

The rears on that TA are going to be chopped in no time. Suprisingly, they do hook up somewhat decently. But in terms of handling, and road noise, they are at the bottom of the chain.

I can't STAND Khumo tires. At the same time you've got to realize not everyone wants to spend 1200 bucks on tires. You get what you pay for... I deal with tires on high end cars every day, so I'm a little more picky.

I'd take a Goodyear GS-D3 over Khumos any day, but that's not saying I'm a fan of those either... If you're willing to spring for Gforce KDs, DO IT! Awesome tire for the $$$

 

screw it get the drag radials, and get a set of slicks to put on the 16's... you know you will wish you had the first time someone tries to run you and you punch it and spin like mad.

You're putting your 12 bolt in it, you have no concerns with the rear breaking... that being said, get sticky tires!

 

when i bought my 18s i found a special on tire rack that was a bfg ta zr tire for $109, i was like that will work for me. they dont hook for **** but so far no tire has ever hooked at all on my car

 

I hear yea there. I took my car home like 2 weeks ago. I turned off the TCS and put 3/4 throttle to it and it kicked out, so its going to be a fun time at the track. Good thing I got a 12 in reserve.

 

Im on my 3rd set of these, I have used them for drag racing and a couple of road racing days, there awesome for the money.

The dont get as good reviews for the rain, but for the money there great.

 

i have had a couple diff sets of kumho's and BFG's on various cars the gsd3 is an amazing tire but its pricey i have found all other lines of kumhos suck but the ecsta mx's i like... decent traction and handle GREAT in turns. i got all 4 on my vette for 600.

 

Kumho MX tires are competitive street compound tires in SCCA. I'm sure they wear quick, but they have their advantage in racing. BFG KD's I've heard are good too, and I'd get them if I had to get 315/35/17 street tires all around.

Which Khumo MX tires are you referring to? This guy is looking for street radials. Not a race compound tire (aka Khumo Victo Racer, Exsta V700/V710)

What is your personal experience with these tires? Have you compared these tires on the street, and on the track?

We've run Hoosiers, Khumos, Toyos, etc. on our race car. Hoosiers win hands down. (competitive race compound tire- SCCA ITS class BMW 3 series).

I wouldn't run Khumos on a Yugo.

 

I think he's referring to the Street Mod classes in autocross, where R compounds are verboten, and the rubber must carry at least a 160 (or is it 200??) treadwear rating. Either way, the KDs would kick the MX's azz. And yes, Hoosiers are the $h!t in DOT tire road racing, IF you can afford to run them.

Old thread but yes, I was referring to a street compound. I personally have no experience on the Kumhos. I wish I had experience on different tire types. I'm only going by word of mouth and who I've seen win at certain events. And many people in the street tire classes (140 treadwear and higher) tend to go with either Kumho MX's (not ecsta supras) or Falken Azenis. There's tons of other ones. Im sure they'd go with the BFGs if they were more affordable. MX's aren't too shabby for such an affordable tire.

Obviously a Hoosier is going to be better than an MX. Its race compound

 

I have the kuhmo ecsta MXs.. they arent too bad it depends where you are really. I can shred them to pieces with my torque converter now but for some reason my street (which unfortunately is only like 500 feet long) hooks amazing.. I havent been to a track so i dont know how sticky those are but I guess for the price they arent too bad.
