Yeah I went in with the attitude that I would just get an LCD TV 27" max and left with a 50" for double the price....

The Hooters in Whethersfield, CT has all LG flat screens, unless it was the reception they kinda sucked. If no one was really moving it was fine, but if alot of action was going on it would leave a pixlilated shadow, kinda blotchy. It was probably LCD, but thats what I have seen.

you did fine with the crt--still the best pic available. Lcd's are crap as are plasma and dlp as far as getting the best pic. Lcd,dlp, and plasma have their place but people still seem to think their better technology than a crt since their new and thin and lite. I see that you suggested the avs forum and i can tell you did your homework... Lcd',plasma, and dlp are great if you dont have alot of space, want to mount it on a wall out of the way, dont have 5 friends to help you move a 200+lb tv, or you want a tv over 36".

You were probably seeing right. That is one of the main drawbacks of lcd(artifacting, jaggies etc) due to the display having square pixles.. In due time lcd, dlp, plasma will improve as it has and really start to offer a better pic than crt.. All depends on your needs and how picky you are about the picture you watch.
For me i got a crt projector with a 95" screen and just about everything looks good and football is great in hd.

I did alot of research when I bought my TVs last year. Best thing to do is to check them out in the store. The picture quality can vary between the sets. There is soooo much out there! You get a headache thinking about them all! I went with -

50' Sony plasma for the living room
56' Toshiba DLP in the master bedroom
23' Sony LCD over the bathroom hot tub
30' Dell LCD in the work area in my garage
23' to the right of that so I can see it when I'm under a car on the lift

Out of all of them, I'd say the DLP has the best picture. Can't complain about any of the others, especially in HD but the DLP's just seems to have a little extra.

When comparing LCD, DLP and Plasma you cannot go based simply on speculation or what you have seen at the local hooters.

What you see at a Hooters is a shared satellite connection that is stretched to the limit with an analog signal on a subpar LCD TV.

LCD's produce less black levels then say a plasma or DLP TV. So the colors are warmer and look more realistic.

For clarity native resolution is the key here. If you have a native resolution of 1,920x1,080 then you have the perfect viewing space. Everything will look realistic and not stretched out or skewed like on other cheaper models and you need to take viewing distance into consideration here too. If you are about 12-15 feet away that is optimal for an LCD and Plasma's usually have a decent native res.

LCD's have less of a lifespan and less viewing angle than say a DLP but better than a plasma and you will shell out a lot more money for a "good" LCD. Also they have the possibility of dead pixels which sucks

Also as far as the artfacts, jaggies if you have an LCD with optimal refresh rate say 5ms you don’t get this problem AT ALL....more commonly known as "ghosting".

Plasmas also have burn in which is highly annoying so I wouldn’t ever get one and they are heavier and hot (You can feel the heat from 10 feet away).

But I don't keep them to long because I need the best always

i bought a pioneer 50" plasma and that thing has the best picture ive seen on all the tvs ive checked out at best buy tweeter and circuit city...i coulda spent 3k more for the 62" or so pioneer elite 720p tv which was nice but not what i needed...their other elite...50" 1080p was 7k but i like my xbr or whatever the letters were...i looked at all the tvs up close/far away/extreme angle and with light pointed at them(glare) i like the plamsa best...rumor has it theyr rated for 5000 hours..or almost 1 year of continous use, or they need to be recharged after a certain time, find me a procedure for recharging a plasma tv and i might believe that...other than that i would say LOOK at other tvs...dont listen to just words...and make sure you understand the numbers

I went looking for a 07 tahoe and left with a 07 ESV escalade.....but I dont think he talked me into it I think I did it myself. As far as my plasma I wanted a 42 and got a 42 because I had to hang it above my fireplace and the 50 was to big for the room i think...

42 inch plasma living room
30 inch lcd in bedroom
15 inch lcd in kitchen
3 tv in ESV Escalade
