does anyone in the NJ area feel kind enough to lend me that lifter holder tool that they use in ls1howto.com, or can i buy it for a discounted price?

thats what id do go to home depot/lowes and get some dowles and youll be fine

3/8" round stock. If not, I'll be in northern NJ Friday - Sunday.

When I used 3/8", I had to grind/sand one side flat. The side that went against the lifters. 5/16" is just a little too small. I got mine in the craft section at Wam-Lart. Be careful not to break them off in your block.
