best route, nj to ct
all you ct guys that come race down here in nj, or vice versa, i need some help....
i need to get from trenton nj up to ellington ct and all the directions ive been looking at want me to take the george washington bridge and the cross bronx expressway.
i plan on making this trip on a monday morning so traffic will most likely be hell and i was wondering if any of you guys use a route that avoids the city without adding a lot of miles or time to the trip?

You can go across on 684 to I84, but that generally takes a good bit longer from personal experience.
Unfortunately going up I95 is pretty much is the most direct way. Right up I95 north to I91 north, follow until you get to the I84east exit and take I84 east to the vernon Rt83 exit, which I assume is hwo mapquest is sending you.
If you leave at an hour that will put you thru the GW bridge before 6 am (I know that's early, but it will get you to ellington around 8:30 to 9 am) I sould do that, then on your way home you will be going thru NY at about noon time depending on how long you're there, which will avoid alot of the traffic going the other way. I have done this ride many times to go down south for some reason or another, and I can tell you the timing of hitting NY is 90% if it, 10% is luck.

Check 880 am on your way up to make sure there are no accidents on 287 and you should be golden (880 does traffic reports every 10 minutes on the 8s, ie 7:58, 8:08, etc). I highly recommend the Merrit Parkway over 95 at least 95% of the time, as well (unless you are driving in very off-peak hours). Haha, POST RESULTS.
