There is a bunch of supposed ways to check the pinion angle, the way my fab guy checks it is he has a digital guage, puts it on the rear and sero's it out on the rear tehn checks the driveshaft side to see what the difference is, some people check it compared to level ground.

Ask Madman, he probably can explain it better. I know my car is set at -2, my fab guy set it for me, and I went home and checked it vs the driveshaft with the frame connectors level and wrote it all down, I know when all the #'s are the same as what I have written down, the angle is -2. I'll be honest I have clunks but that's from rod ended rear control arms and the phb. I didn't see/notice any increase in the clunks when I put this on the car, I had a chassis mounted spohn before and that didn't clunk either. I bet the ang;e beign off has something to do with the whine

As for the whine, live with it is all I can say. You get one that doesn't whine, and I guarintee it's gonna break, that is how it always seems to be.

Krazy: I'll know better when Don retunes my ratio as it effects my shifts points and all that other stuff. I think I will like it around town on the Hwy it's just a little high around 70 but not too bad. No way would I run those gears in an A3 on the hwy w/ 26" tires. It spins pretty high and would be very loud. I think 3.73's would have been perfect for my intentions, but that is pretty much nitpicking.

I'm still babying it for break-in, but you can tell it moves out a bit faster.

My exhaust gets a loud resonating sound around 2400 rpms, these gears pretty much put me there cruising in either 3 or 4, so it's a bit louder. The car is just a weekend crusier and something to play with at the track on occasion so I don't mind going little bigger than what most would tolerate on a daily driver.

JL: Thanks for the info, I'm gonna play with it a bit and see how it works out, Once I get my driveshaft loop back I'll double check all the things talked about. I also got relocation brackets in the mail as we speak. ( my car fund is tapped this year )

I have a Strange 12-bolt...

I vote for a 3rd option. Strange S60. Its a Dana 60 made for F-bodies. Stronger and lighter then 9" only 17lbs heavier then a 12-bolt with the same options. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Strange asking about the S60 after I broke the gears in my 12-bolt for the 5th time in as many years.

If you plan on launching at upwards of 7000rpm with a good clutch, I would go with the S60 from Strange.

If my car was a stick I would of went with either the 9" or S60 option. I think the s60 is way over kill for my car. I'm not planning to make a single digit racer out of it either. If I was looking for the ultimate rear I'd probably get a fabbed 9". The S60 is a great option for stick cars or ones w/ buttloads of power. I'm hoping for near off idle launch's in the high 1.5 range

Never Done

Although it has to be more or less for me soon, I need a house.
I know I've easily spent 20K+ into the car not including the cost of buying it, which was even more. I bought the car in late 2001, and I payed it off this past winter, LOL I could have paid it off like 3+ years ago, oh well.

I get a kick outta people when they say they are gonna toss 5-6 grand into their car and it's gonna run 10's.

It's always sounds easy to say. I have no doubt that what you're putting together will do that with a little work, it's not gonna do it right off the trailer the first pass but once you have it sorted out, you'll probably have it closer to 10.0 then 10.5.

I got about 3k into a 5k car and am only a 100 shot away from 10s. The question becomes how many times do you want to run those 10s. No question it cost money to do it reliably. FAST , RELIABLE, CHEAP -- PICK 2.

Yeah I mean reliably, not 1 or 2 passes. I guess what I mean is a car that runs em' consistently. It takes a lot more $ than people anticipate, that's for sure.

Still getting used to the ratio (3.73's woulda been plenty), It's a bit high for hwy cruising and I've noticed the gears are catching up with the stall speed really quick (I need a new one anyways). I got enough breakin' miles on it atleast. I've been playin' around with the pinion angle and it's helping a little. The angle was so negative before the nose wouldn't dive at all while braking. I've loosened it up a little now it dips a little and some of the vibration is gone. I gotta few more things I'm gonna try.
