its very strange, he isnt like that, i was looking to buy a vett back in the day, i was stupid, i was an idiot. use my vett he said.
so i did, but it kind of sucked, sure free vett to cruz, but it wasnt mine to do what i wanted to and i couldnt use it all the time.
he decided on a new vett, gave me the option to buy his, i did and he hasnt said anything about it.

same thing with my harley. i wanted a bike bad. he said i was stupid i could use his. i got an old honda 750 drove it when i couldnt use his harley, he was pissed i got it. 6 months later he got his new road king, told me to get rid of the honda and sold me his old harley. never heard about it again exept he does ask if he can use it every once in a while cuz he loves the bike.

i think with the house he will do the same.
he asked that i keep the down stairs apartment open (my cousin lives there now) but he asked that i keep it open so when he comes home for b-days, x-mass etc he has a place to stay. thats the deal.

I hear you I bought my grandparents old house and decided to gut the entire place and renovate it myself. Im no contractor (Finance guy) but I have a ton of friends that are contractors, plumbers, electricians, etc so they worked with me and after 6 months of rennovating the place I had it exactly how I wanted. Then my mother and aunt (both grew up in the house) were almost in tears because I "change or threw out" a bunch of their childhood memories....even when prior to rennovating the place I asked what they wanted...but it wasnt actual objects but the fact that I tore down old structures and re-arranged walls, etc. Then I have my father telling me that I didnt need all new stainless appliances, 2 huge tvs, granite counter top, new bathroom, etc etc...which is probably true haha but its not their place its mine and im 25 years old I can make my own decisions and thats the issue with buying ANYTHING from family/relatives. If you change/alter anything they take it as what they had was/is not good enough for you. Im learning that the hard way but what to hear something crappy. Im going on vacation about 3 weeks ago and Im playing in one of my basketball leagues the night before im leaving and low and behold one of the guys and on my own team along with one of his buddies steals my credit cards and $500 cash out of my wallet. By the time I get home and realize the money and cards are gone (they kindly left my empty wallet in my gym bag) they had charged $3500 on my debit card in 1.5 hours!!!!!!! They denied it but the detective had 8 tapes with them on it using my card. They got bagged and I got my $3500 back but im out the $500 cash, a friend, and the entire time I was on vacation I had zero access to any money besides the cash I took out prior to leaving. Plus I lost a day of vacation having to file a police report and the charges on my card...

Oh yea PS try being a Senior Financial Analyst for Fidelity and having to deal with a completely erratic Stock Market...they want 5 year budgets and forecasts and no one can even predict whats going to happen from day to day! The whole world sucks nowadays and with the pending presidential election who knows how the Marketplace will react...

You are fucked because you work in a family business. I am in the same boat, but even worse. Not only do I have my father down my back, but my mother and my older brother. I run our business, which consists of 38 employees, not counting the 4 family members. It is a dog fight every day. My old man gets on my back about every cent I spend. He was bullshit when I bought my TBSS. As if I was spending his money or something.
I know how you feel Brad and it sucks. It sucks when no money is coming in because the first ones to not get paid are the family. I have missed 3 checks in the past 3 month (and we get paid bi-weekly here). Times are tough, but if you are still able to go out and buy your toys that it isnt that bad. It could be worse. I was in Vegas last week for 3 days and every day I got calls from work starting at 3am Vegas time!!!!! It sucked when you are hammered and just falling asleep or you are still out drinking and have to explain **** to your old man that he knows how to do but he is just being a dink. You could be working your *** of 7 days a week, not getting paid a few times, and have your father all over your back for spending a few bucks on yourself. My old man even makes me and my brother pay rent on the house that we live in, which we all own through a trust. Family businesses suck because there is no line between work and family bullshit.

you understand!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!
its not all ***** of fire. when its good its good, when its bad, its real bad.

i work with my father (thank god he is only there 2-3 days a week) my mother who now is also 3-4 days a week, and my girl works in the office as well. i have no escape either. lol

as for the money thing, thats exactly it, i make a check, at the end i also make a profit. if there is no profit i get no extra, if i miss a check or so i hope that we make it up in the end. last year we lost $$ thank god i was smart with my couple previos years, it help get the company threw hard times. i had to pass on a few things like my new jet ski, a bigger trailer etc etc, but oh well.

but exactly, i have my company money i use wise. i have my paycheck that is mine to use. i pay my bills i put some in savings, i have an IRA that gets some, the rest i save to play with.
my play money is all i spend and like you said, its like its his $$$

oh well. i just hope things turn around and he can retire on a good note.

You just described my life.

We are busy as hell right now, but the cash flow is very slow. I gotta pay my guys so no check for me this week.

BTW, I know brads situation. Many look at the cars, sleds & toys, but they don't see the rest. I wouldn't trade places with Brad for any amount of toys or $$$$. I only get a little bit of sleep at night right now, and I like it.

Today I was reminded of the phrase "no good deed goes unpunished". I'm a maintenance guy, I was trying to fix a broken garbage disposal but I could not get it apart, and it got on my last nerve. It was late in the day and I thought about ducking out early, which I can easily get away with at my job. But there was a leaky faucet too and I didn't want to leave it leaking all weekend since I'm off tomorrow. So I go to the hardware store and get new washers for it, come back to put them in and slice my finger open removing the cartridge. Then put it back together (with brand new washers) and the leak is worse. That's what I get for being a goody two shoes and not leaving early.

On the plus side I rode a motorcycle for the first time in about two years today, that was nice. I'm hoping to find one before the end of summer.

you know what i meen tho, its never ending

MARK, you got it now bud.

87lt1, we do it all from a fart fan to a 100 ton chiller for an ice ring, to mrs.smiths house to 800,000 sq foot auto centers etc etc.
we do gov work as well, thats about all keeping us busy right now, and even that the bidding is so cut throught we are making no money on them and they take 60-90 days or more, then keep 1% retainage for 100 or more days because the panter needs to touch up a dot on a wall.
it sucks, and its not getting better fast.

on a good note, i save .20 per gallon today filling my truck up. hehe

I feel for you guys too. Try dealing with a wife who is 39.5 weeks pregnant and pissed off at the world, but this too will pass.

On top of that, she has her own graphic design business which is a good thing, but when she's not working, she's not getting paid. So for the past 2.5 months I've been mr. mom to our 19 month old son as well as working a full time job as a pharm chemist.

But knock on wood, my wife is healthy, the baby she's carrying is healthy, my son's healthy, and we pay the bills every month.

Life is full of responsibilities and worries, learning how to get through them is part of growing up.
