they need to be heat cycled. usually short trips no hard driving let them cool down for a couple hundred miles, and you should be good.

Yea, the best thing to do is to drive them slow for a while. No hard turns either. For lubrication purposes, I use Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90. It's great stuff. Are you using a rear girdle as well?

I've always stuck to 500 miles, under 55mph and heat cycle them (not all 500 in one trip!). Always worked for me except for the patience part......

The guy above you pretty much explained it.

Suppose it's a new motor needs to be heat-cycled for several hours instead...

You wouldn't leave the engine on for the hours "straight." You would allow the motor to heat up and then cool back completely down in "cycles," on and off, rechecking and retightening bolts.

Sorry if my explanation sucks, it's the only way I can think of it right now.

This is in a 10 bolt I'm assuming? 4.10's really howl, I've been driving on 4.10s for almost two years now and have just accepted it. Anytime its checked out they are still setup correctly, hell my 4.10's were mikronited which was supposedly going to cut down on the noise, then again I'm running a gearset from Richmond, supposedly they are the loudest.
