Water pump?? or oil pump???
1998 ls1 car
i have a griding noise at idle that i can hear but can not pin point and its getting worse..Making the same noise as if a water pump bearing is going out..
it has a ls6 ported oil pump.. Whats the chances of the oil pump making this noise??? also i can out my hand on the water pump and i dont feel a shake or grinding?

Take the belt off start the car and see if the noise is still there. That will help pinpoint the cause because once the belt is off the water pump will not spin. The oil pump will still spin because it is driven on the crankshaft snout.

good idea!!! this comes and goes and varies in loudness.. i will wait till i really hear it turn the car of and pop that belt of real quick.. When an oil pump goes does it make a sound.. its a recent ls6 ported one..
