Default And so the swap begins....

Well I just said bye-bye to my bird... It is on its way to my boys house in Middleburge to get ripped into for the A4 to M6 swap. I am a little worried since neither he nor I has ever done this. I know there is the Swap Thread, but it is so packed with post, I don't even know where to begin, but one thing does put my in the green a little bit - after 2 failed attempts in buying a 99+ m6 harness and ecu, I finally found one on craigs list a few days ago, so..... that is one issue I will not have.

Now I was going to pull the engine with the trans so that I can clean up the engine bay and maybe freshen up the LS1 oil & water pump, belts, pulleys, etc.. My question is - would it be easier to pull the engine and trans out from the top, or drop everything out from the bottom? We do have access to a lift so working from 12" off the ground is not even an issue here, I just want to know what would be easiest.

Also is there anyone here, let alone Jacksonville that has done a A4 to M6 swap? Like I said, the Swap Thread is more than hard to follow.

Thanks for reading my long winded thread guys!

Here is the list of what we are going to do:

A4 to M6
Clean up and repaint the engine bay
Prep body, fix body issues
Swap the 98 harness and ecu for the 99+
Oil & water pump, belts, pulleys
ABS & A/C delete
Batt. relocation to rear
Replace hood with VFN pin-on
Replace the front bumper with the Evolution bumper
Replace D & P doors
Replace the fucked up steering column
Replace the peanut brittle dash-pad

AND

Install my newly built Fab 9" from MWC

As for the "If I have enuff $$$" :

A fat nasty cam
K-Member
Solid motor mounts

Default Swap

Do yourself a favor and drop it out the bottom. It's much easier, specially if you have a lift.

As for changing your harness, You might check into if your going to have to change the inside harness and cluster ? I have a 98 up in the hedge row and chopped off that connector from the inside that goes to the cluster. It was different than my 2000 TA.

Cake... You won't need an M6 harness, you will simply not be using some of the pinouts from the A4. The other way around, however...Not so much fun. Ask me how I know.
