If he really owns the car and it really is legally registered in Florida in his name then it is simple to get a title.

It needs to have a Title no matter how old it is.Find out who is legally the title holder and contact them. They could possible get a duplicate made and mail it or if you cant reach them or they don't want to,Go to the DMV and they can send a letter and previous owner can sign it,then you get a new title made for you.Just be careful. Most times there's a reason for no title.

Then contact the Florida DMV and get them to give you a duplicate title.

I bought my 98 z28 in Rhode Island August 30th. the dealer told me He didn't have to produce the title because the car is over 10 years old. I try to register it here in Florida. they kept telling me I need the title. They pulled out some book to look into it then they knew i did not need the title. But they did say I needed the original Past owner registration not a copy of it. The supervisor called someone and they said all was good even though i had a copy of regisration and not the original. Good luck with it all. John

You can save some money and do a duplicate with transfer. Look it up on the DMV's site.

If you haven't already, then CARFAX the car using the VIN. Be careful of any LIENS on the vehicle. If the title comes back "SALVAGED", run in the opposite direction as it has been sunk, wrecked, or stolen.
