Default what to do

im on a budget build and kinda run out of money but i have a set of 317 heads want to know how much could i mill them to come close to 243 the cam im going to be runing is a 218/222 550/549 116+3 would i need to change my pushrods too thanks guys

Yes you can mill them but make sure they haven't been done before. As discussed before I wouldn't go over 30 thousandths. And common sense tells you if you mill them then the pushrod size changes cause now its shorter distance. I did a simple google search of milling and pushrod change and it came up to ls corvette forum. So plenty of info out there.

I dont think it is a smart idea to change your stock heads for the 317's. You are going to lose compression,unless you are going forced induction. You said you ran out of money so I would be correct in thinking that going forced induction is not in the near future. If not you going to be around 9.5:1 and you car is going to run like a dog. One for the low compression and two the small cam.

@415470hp but thats why i want to mill the 317 to like 66 - 65 cc woul dit be betta just to put back the 853 that i had on there?

You are going to spend the money to make the 317's the same as your stock heads compression or maybe a little higher.
Just get the motor running and save up for a better setup.

415 is right! to come close to a 243 head, start with 241s.

That's a small cam.

You'd be better having some port work on the 853s.

Besides milling the 317s that low for your build now will hurt when you want that low CR when going FI.

Work with what you got, it'll run good and save $$ too.
