South Broward got clobbered. Trees, power lines down, no traffic lights. Everything is slowly to come back together. As far as damage to homes most was minor unless a tree fell on it.

I hope everyone got to go to mardi gras at least once, cause the next time you go to new orleans you'll be trailing a boat and doing some fishing. (storm surge + city of new orleans below sea level = more waterfront property)

Ditto all that.

I can't BELIEVE a level 1 hurricane did what it did down here

So many people, myself included, underestimated the devastating power of such a minor, relatively speaking, hurricane.

I was lucky to not lose power . . . but over a million others weren't so lucky

So much of S Fl is still without power

My mom lives in south broward and she told me yesterday that there is still a few people with no power. Luckily the damage was realtively minor in her area, pretty much it was just power lines and trees that took a beating, according to her.

My folks live in Jupiter, and they said about 3 inches of rain and all of 30 mph winds, but otherwise fine and never lost power.

I'm feeling really bad for the coasts/towns in Louisiana, because I can remember the stuff I dealt with last year from 2 'canes, and I still didn't have it as bad as some cities.

No joke, I heard it was supposed to be underwater for like 6 months.

We got thrashed pretty hard here in Kendall. Tons of huge trees downed, power lines and light poles litter Kendall Dr., no power for 3 days, the hood of my baby (WS6) is ruined thanks to flying shingles... hurricanes suck.

Katrina was a wuss. I pulled duty after Andrew and lived in a tent for 14 weeks. We had orders to shoot looters on sight and all the construction guys were packing too. The destruction was unbeleivable, looked like Daisy Cutters had been there.
Did you know that there are still elderly people living unders tarps at Eagle Ridge? All of their possesions were blown away in hurricane Charlie a YEAR ago. The Govt. promised people that lost trailers replacement and then only bought 250. The 250 trailers that sat in a compound for weeks after the storm. Then the chickenshit insurance companies pulled out and refused to pay for damages. Some of these people paid those Ins Co for years and years to get shafted in the end. Did OUR govt do anything about it, NO! WHY??? There are people in their 80's that have no homes and are getting no help from FEMA or anyone else. They cook on camp stoves and use porta potties, it's disgusting! It turns my stomache to think that these poor people are being tortured this way. It could be your Grand Parents, what would you do?

The eye of the storm is not the most dangerous, it's the "right" side of the storms that carry the worst winds. The eye will go dead calm until the back wall catches up and passes, sometimes it will be calm for nearly an hour. You can even see stars while standing in the eye.

Katrina was a wuss? I hope you are referring to the strength of Katrina when she hit S. Florida and the Keys. Or maybe you haven't been looking at the pictures of what it did to New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulf Port.

Camille may have had stronger winds, by a small margin, but this storm was so HUGE it impacted so many more places. We had Hurricane forces winds here in Pensacola, almost 200 miles away from the eye, and a 10 foot storm surge in some places on PC beach.

Not even Andrew, and certainly not Camille is going to come close to the destruction Katrina has caused.
