Default I have an idea!!! Be afraid, very afraid!!!

I think i may have concocked the perfect idea for my car. I was thinking of the different things i could go for: the heads and cam route, the bored over stock block, or even the 402 block but all these things have been done to death. I want something one off. I am not a huge fan of boost so a supercharger or turbos are not high on my list. So today i was at work like normal and a 3500 duallie truck came in for routine service and like all the non diesel duallies it had an 8.1 liter. THAT IS WHEN IT HIT ME LIKE A BRICK WALL!!!! I want to go with a bored over 8.1 which i believe is a 496 block and punch it out to about a 5somthing. That would be sick. I am almost 100% sure it will fit with minimal work if any at all. I know the extra weight would be an issue but the 8.1 would be a torque monster. I would go with a really stout cam and super worked heads. I should be able to produce some great hp number but the torque number should be enough to rip my car in half!!! j/k but the torque numbers on that setup should be really amazing. I am getting giddy just thinking about it. Now im on my search for a junkyard 8.1 in need of some loving. I still have to do soem research to see if the fitment would be possible and few other things but i believe i have found my goal. Just thought i would share.

This has kind of been done. I have a friend named Thomas in Orlando that has built a Black 4th gen SS Camaro with a 502 BBC. He races at OSW and the car runs 10.3 - 10.4 at 130mph, its a very cool car.

1) find me a good set of heads and intake for a 8.1L
2) weight on the front end

what exactly does a 8.1l come in? what would you gear that to? just when u get it done and race it, make a vid of it....lol....put a blower on it to...

Good heads are everywhere for these.
Its just a BBC head.
They flow 400+.
IMO it will be alot more money then you think.
You will HAVE to have a bad *** rear/and trans.
Prob a Turbo-400.
Headers will have to be custom made and you will need a 2" or better header.
You will also have a bunch of extra weight.
If your goona do this good luck.
I have seen that car in orlando, and I believe it runs weak for what it is.
A nicely built LS1 will school his car.
His is still fast but for the money its a waste.

since when was building a bbc expensive? especially compared to an lsx motor??? I say go for it, but instead of a new 8.1 just do a forged stroked bbc with some good aluminum heads. A built th400 is less than any t56 or 4l60e will ever be, and way stronger, plus a 9" or 12 bolt would be necessary for any car that fast anyways, regardless of powerplant.

BUT i still think you should do what i told you to do today at work. DURAMAX THE BITCH!!
