Default hunting info

Hey guys i just recently got into firearms, and i got interested in hunting also. Now i never been hunting, but i plan on going with my father and he did use to go hunting but that was like over 20, or 30 years ago, and it was in another country. I am currently working on getting all my hunting paper work straight. What i was wondering is if any of u know any good wild management areas to go hunting for wild boar, and if u guys know any good florida hunting forums, o and if u guys got any tips on hunting wild boar let me know also thanks all.

I don't know where the MA's are in your area, but thats not hard to find online.

What do you want to know about hunting pigs?
Ive been doing it for years, Ive trapped them, caught them with dogs, and shot many of them.

Ask some questions and ill answer them to the best of my knowledge.

well for starters whats a good area for hunting them, are they available all over the state or are there areas of higher concetration where the chances of running into one are higher? I live in Broward county, are there alot of them down here in the south end of the state or should i go farther up north. Also i read somewhere that boar was good for hunting year round, but then i read on the wildlife management website that in some areas where it was concider game, it was only huntable (if thats even a word) during a certain time. Also as an old time hunter plz let me know of any tricks or any comon place hunting rules that i should know about. Like i said i never been hunting, and my father used to hunt many, many years ago in the old country so we are not familair with any unwriten/comon courtesy hunter practices around here. O and one more thing are u allowed to have a side arm with u when u are out in the wild, if u dont have a conceal permit? and as far as transporting ur rifle is a hunting lisence all u need to be walking around in the woods with it?

Broward county, yeah there are a lot of hogs in and around the everglades.
You need to find either a MA or someone who owns land.

Most likely the MA's will have a season for the hogs, youll have to check the rules and regs. Now if you find a land owner, you can hunt hogs all year round on private property.

As for tricks and tips, that comes with time and all depends on where you are hunting.
To find where pigs are you look for what is called sign. With pigs, that is Rooting(where pigs root up the ground looking for food) , rooting will look like someone used a tiller on the ground. Then you have wallows, this is where a pig wil go to coat itself in mud to keep the bugs off, a wallow will look like a smooth sided little pool, usually you can see where the pig has been sitting in it.
And the list sign to look for is a rub, a rub is where a pig will come to a tree daily or more, and rub its body(usually its chest)on the tree and wear a spot on it(Pine trees are most common). This does three things that I know of keeps and scrapes bugs off, marks territory, and with pine tar, builds up a shield on the chest for fighting.

A good idea might be to find a ranch and pay to take a hog, you'll learn a lot from the guide, and you'll get your feet wet in hunting.

The gun thing I can't answer, you'll probobly need to take a safety course to get your license. Again you'll need to look at the rules and regs for this, and also if your on a MA you'll need to check with them.

Lastly you need to be careful with hogs, yes they are just pigs, but they are said to be the smartest domestic animals, and have the means to F you up! (pic below)

BE CAREFUL and enjoy it.

ok cool yea as far as being carefull i know, when i was a kid my grandfather used to raise hogs, every once in a while we would have a male one that was not castrated he would always have that one tied up and locked up and would always warn us to stay away from that one casue it would eat us, lol. To tell u the truth those big ole male pigs sure as hell looked like they could eat a couple of kids , i also helped him rasie a few of them and when ever they would slaughter them all his grandkids would join in the kill. So i have been around them, just never out in the wild they where always farm raise ones. Thanks for the info man, apreciated.
