OK, here's the story.

It seems my car has an intermittent problem, ESPECIALLY when it rains. I had my clutch/flywheel/transmission checked out and they are all 100% ok, so it's not a drivetrain problem. The car will sputter and hesitate, almost as if it was being "choked". At speed, the car will hesitate, with the same symptoms. It only happens from 900RPM - 1600RPM. Could this be an electrical problem from a wire getting wet, or is my fuel pump on the way out? My gas gauge is busted, but I don't think it is linked to all the sputtering.

Also, the driver's side EGR valve is "fluttering". I was told by the good guys at FX Ceramic Coatings that there is too much air being pushed into there, yet the original gasket is in there (the one with the tiny hole), and I made sure I really bolted it down tight, but to no avail. I have the block off plates in my apt, but I haven't had time to remove the EGR system and put them on. Any ideas on how to stop the flutter until then?

My car does the same thing when it rains. It doesn't throw any codes or anything, but after a few days of dry weather it acts normal again.

Check your front O2 sensors. You might have a small leak and when the moisture is around them they act up. That hesitiation is usually a misfire, but not bad enough to always set off the blinking SES light.

either you need to check and change your spark plugs and/or wires. change o2 sensors. or there's a little water mist geting in the motor and making the motor hesitate

I changed the plugs a few thousand miles ago, and I made sure I gapped them all at the right length. The wires haven't been changed in awhile, but I'll check the O2 sensors up front and see how they're reading.

Thanks a lot.

Also, does anybody have any idea on how to fix that damned flutter on the driver side EGR?

It's not your EGR, it's the AIR valves thet are fluttering. It only happens with MAC headers still running smog.

my 98 z-28 did the same thing and worse when it rained.come to find out a plug wire wasnt on all the way.it was #8 the hardest one to get to. good luck!

I will definitely check that. My SES light just came on, so I'm going to go take it to a shop to get the codes read.

Might want to check your MAF for the sputtering issue as well, could just need a simple cleaning.

As for the AIR fluttering gimmick, just yank that useless crap, trying to fix it would take longer than just getting rid of it all.

What kind of plug wires are you running? If the wires are getting wet they might be arcing, happened to me.

I ordered new wires. Turned out that the #7 cylinder was misfiring because the plug wire stayed in contact with the headers and burned it.

mine used to have a sputtering problem in the rain, turned out that my o2's on the passenger side had been spliced twice and there was live wire showing that was just wrapped in elecrical tape, and when it rained it got in. When it would dry it would go back to normal. Just fixed this the other day.
