I got a handout in class about that the other day and the average home owner in FL will save an average of $240 a year. So im sure all the old people all over FL are thinking, woo hoo! $20 a month! Is twenty bucks a month really worth the cost of having no officers? Not to me. Vote NO!!!
Well then the state should show some accountability (and common sense) and cut out unecessary programs instead of cutting police/fire dept. resources. I mean, when my budget gets tight, I cant send the bank less money for my car payment, or only pay 1/2 my insurance. I have to pay the necessary bills and cut out unecessary things like going off with friends, and eating something crappy @ home rather than eating out @ a restaraunt.
I'm not exactly sure how to vote on this one, its a catch 22 situation, and I think it sucks. On the one hand, I'm tired of spending money on stupid projects and people who dont deserve it, and I'd rather have any money than none. On the other hand, it takes money away from police/fire depts. which we really need. I guess I just dont understand why the stupid state govt. cant leave funding for our police and firefighters alone and cut out the BS, and we could have both funding for police/firefighters and a tax break.
p.s. This is just my view and no way an attack against you Red99. Good luck with the academy, I'm hoping to get in by the end of the year here in Jax.

I am very tired of the socialist argument that if we are not taxed to death we will have no police or fire department and all the old people will die. You cannot find a more inneficient use for your money than government. If they stuck to providing infrastructure and security and stayed out of every other program they would have pleny of money.
This government IS OURS! Why should I spend all day every day searching relentlessly for ways to run my business and even my home more efficiently while the government takes as much of my money as they want and blows it on anything they want?
And if they manage it poorly, do they pay a price like you or I would? Hell no! They take more and tell us to shut the hell up and pay because if we don't then we hate the poor firefighters who are in a burning building saving grandma right now and won't get a paycheck because our stingy asses believe we should get to keep the money we work so hard for! Republicans and democrats have squandered the american success, OUR SUCCESS! We better wake up and hold government accountable at all levels!

Maybe this generation should read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I don't mean the doctored up paraphrased versions, the actual documents. Our government should fear and serve us, we should never have to say as some in this thread have that "it doesn't matter how you vote, they'll do what they want". That, my friend, is why we revolted against Britain.

The spirit and thinking of our founding fathers is not completely gone from this land and hopefully never will be!

My thoughts exactly. I am voting yes and if they cut rescue and police(which they promise will not happen), then when I vote for a candidate next time I will remember that and vote accordingly. Orlando was in a huge deficit when this last guy was elected. They simply cut that amount out of the next years budget and cut unneeded programs, NOT POLICE OR RESCUE, and made due.

Just voting down a good program because you think they will do the wrong thing with the cuts is not good enough. These politicians need to be held accountable. How did they do it a couple years ago when my neighborhood didnt exist. At $5000 a pop for taxes, there should be a surplus, not a deficit, even with less taxes from each house under this proposal.

Maybe if there are a few less cops they will spend more time on the important things like Crime and gangs and less time harassing the public over stupid things like a broke tail light . Maybe if there are a few less cops the competition will be greater amongst the police to be better officers that are more appreciative of the public whom pay their salaries. I have family and friends that are LEO - some are great and some need to be cut. I will be voting yes but not for this silly reason.
