Default how do I get a title?

I have a 89 camaro and the guy I bought it from never got it registered in his name. He can't get ahold of the guy he bought it from. So my ? is how do I get a title for my car, and register it in my name. I called the DMV and they said I could not get a title. They wouldn't help me or nothing (********). So if anybody has any info that'd be great. Thanks.

You cant get a title unless you get ahold of the current title holder. They have to go into the tag office with you. I couldnt even do it when I had a dealer lisence. The DMV can get you the last known address and the name of the registered owner for that VIN.

More than likely its a parts car. Like Mike said, you can get a junkyard car and swap VIN plates, but the rules are pretty clear on that, and you are taking a chance if you try it.

Be very careful on deals like that. People fabricate stories like that because usually the car is stolen. I know theres a way to a get a salvage title for cars like this but I dont know the procedure and I think in involves getting a junkyard to sign off on it.

I'd run the VIN number by your local police station just to be on the safe side.

I dont think I would go to a police station to run the VIN. You might get some jackass cop with a chip on his shoulder and he could arrest you for being in posesion of it. I would go to the tag office. They are nice enough and can tell you the titled owner and if there are any leins against it. That is what I ran into in the past too, you get a car with a bill of sale only to find out there is a lein on it.
