Default Need some help deciding on a DD

Guys, I need some help deciding on a daily driver.

I currently drive my Heads/Cam Ws6 and I love it but just want it for weekends and the occasional track visit once or twice a month.

I plan to pick up this daily driver either at the end of the summer or towards Christmas.

Here's my delima, I want something fun to drive. I don't need a truck really, but might settle. I dont want a Civic. I dont really want a bike but gosh its tempting.

I'am really wanting a 04 GTO, or another F-body, like Firehawk or maybe an SS. A C5 FRC or coupe if price was right. Must be a M6. (So in this price range)

I want something that has some power and that can go around a corner exceptionally well. All of the listed cars above are more than capable I know even when modded.

I would like to hear any other suggestions. Say Euro cars......? I dont know.

Thanks in advance.

Thats what I think. But something tells me as well as my Dad to get a GTO cause its the newest and most modern cosmeticly (interior) wise. Not to mention a good bang for the buck. Not as performance like as the C5 for sure but a strong car without a doubt. But either I'd be happy with.

Any more input is gladly appreciated.

Might sound weird since us f-body guys tend to stray away from dsm, but with what you talked about i would suggest a used/stock evo IX MR.

I know, I know... probably don't want any ricer bull ****... blah blah blah. But hear me out.

It may seem strange, but i would love to have an all out race f-body and a DD evo. Thing is, my girls mom had an evoIX and it was awesome for her little daily. It sounds kinda like what your looking for, and im sure you can find it for around the price (if not cheaper) than a C5. Its AWD (handles the corners like you want), make decent power for what they are, turbo 4 bangers with 6speeds get great gas mileage (especially with gas prices nowadays). You dont even have to modify it, stock these things are really fun to drive.

I know the first thing us V8 guys is look down on them, but you already have your LS1. Keep it unmodified and enjoy. Even stock those cars are incredibly fund to drive and handle the twistys amazingly well.

Thats just my opinion. On the other hand i plan to get an R6 later on down the road, but we'll see.

If your looking for something cheap + sporty thats good on gas theres always the V6 F-body or Mustang option. Good on gas, looks good and with a cheap flowmaster can sound pretty good too! Im personally going to pick up a 98-00 Firebird V6 convertable as my daily driver when I get the money and slap a good muffler on it and go cruising.

04 GTO-------$14,000-$18,000 with decent mileage
Full Peddars----$1,500-$2,000 handle like a Z06
Interior----Comparable to the finest German cars.

I think this should be THE DD that you are looking for.

Come on buddy, I KNOW this is what you want since the first time you drove my GTO!

I drove a GTO once, I thought that was a damn nice interior and really comfortable. If I had a need for a DD and it had to be a car, it would be a GTO. If I had kids it would be a EVO 8/9 with huge *** spoiler delete.

How much daily driving are you talking about? Long distances to work and back, I'd go 4/6-cylinder smaller car, these days. If you won't be doing a lot of driving, I'd go with the C5 like was mentioned. The '99's (FRC's????) are affordable and lightweight, which will help on gas $$$$'s.

Good buddy you are a bastard. It always seems the right choice when coming back to it, when thinking about it. In the back of my mind I think thats what I'am going to end up with.

Thanks for your input fella's.

I've thought about stuff from every end of the spectrum.

Any more input is more than appreciated.....please.

Thanks.

STI's suck, i'd say 20mpg at best if you keep your foot out of it and they cost to much

Yeah, sti's aren't all that great for highway. The 5 speeds and 6speeds have the same final drive ratio. (subaru kinda F-ed up on that)

A V6 F-body, gosh no. Sounds logical I know, but no thanks.

A AWD car, sounds fun, but the ricer factor yes. An STI or an EVO would be the only import that I would drive. My family has always had V8's. My WS6 is my first car, and I really like the Lsx engine. Also my parents have Lsx cars. I'am sold on getting another one.

A GTO really appeals to me because when my WS6 was a bolt-on car I loved it! Handles great, had plenty of power and had somewhat decent gas mileage for what it was. I love my car the way it is but I just rather have it for track fun and weekends.

The only thing the WS6 lacked was comfort, so the GTO covers it there but can lack in looks compared to my WS6. As the GTO will be just as fast feeling on the street.

I think what it comes down to is to drive all these cars, a GTO thenFRC in that order I think.

All comes depends on price.

Thank you for all your input.

Anymore is much appreciated.

Is it to late to add my .02?
I'd say go do a side by side comparison with GTO, G8 or Cobalt.
All 3 are quick, sporty, and ok on gas.

Sounds like you want a GTO. You have to get what makes you happy. Remember you are gonna be the one driving it.

I love the GTOs, I can afford one, but right now with gas, it's last on my list of options. The Vettes do get great highway MPGs. I love my F-bodies, but personally I'm tired of driving it on a daily basis. My civic is being turned into a road racing car.

AWD cars usually aren't all that great on gas, tires wear quickly, sometimes a pain to maintain.

How about a Solstice man? Comfy, sporty, comes in a manual, GM, RWD, good MPGs, and handle like a champ.
