supercharged build on a STOCK ls1
Ok, got the green light to do a supercharger build on a "BONE STOCK" LS1 with 40,000 miles. 2002 Camaro SS A4, and it is from the factory STOCK.
He wants supercharger kit on it and has a budget of $8000.00
(No nitrous -was my choice- No turbos) has to be a supercharger.
I have done a little research and have not made much head way on the direction in which to go.
A. Late Model Speed Magna charger kit, 2-3 week lead time on shipment. Great TQ numbers with this twin screw charger.
$6600
B. Vortech V-9 G-trim 8-9lbs boost, Includes High-flow fuel pump, High-capacity fuel injectors and ECM re-programmer satin finish
$6700
C. ATI 1GJ204-SCI EPP Kit - ATI ProCharger F Body D-1SC/F1A 98-02 8 Rib tuner kit with injectors, fuel pump, balancer, pinning kit and tune
$6900

What is the car going to be used for? That a tough decision to make without any more insight to what this guy is looking for.

I went with procharger on my stock ls1 and I made some good power with it, Im very happy with my results and I cant wait to get it to the track. My opinion would be biased but, I would go with the procharger.

D1SC is good, but what are your goals - depending on the power level you will need to upgrade the fuel system, headers, tune, high flow exhaust and may have to improve cooling.
Most people don't like to hear this, but adding all of that power without upgrading the brakes is not advisable.
If done correctly, you should easily net over 520 hp.

Dont get a Vortec unless you feel like drilling into your oil pan Sir.
Also you may want to read the post sticky of supercharger true cost. Im at the same probley you are Sir. I also have an A4 trans which means it needs to be fully rebuilt stronger you also have a 237 limited flip rear axle it would snap under the extra power. Concider even if the basic kit cost 6,000 there are extra mods you would have to do including re enforcing your chassie, upgrading vaulve spings, rebuilding your trans ect ect. You could just end up on barrowed time and a ticking time bomb. estimate around 12,000-13,000 for a solid supercharged aplacation and have a wonderful day Sir.

The car is a weekend only driver that sees no track time but a little stoplight to stoplight action. He is not going for HIGH horsepower or a racecar. He is looking to add good power and wants that supercharger sound. It’s a full street car. Not too concerned with the rear-end popping or the trans going out. The car is rarely driven hard at all.

Go D1SC, Try to find a complete used kit and with the money saved, invest in areas that are gonna need attention ie: fuel system, exhaust, suspension, and tires are just some of the other things your going to need to put the power down.

The EPP Procharger kit comes with all the fuel upgrades and a mail-in tune which we will just take to a local shop and have it dyno tunned. I think the D-1sc is going to be the direction we go in.
I will post up pic of the build was we go along.
Thanks-

Good choice with EPP, they have a good product and know what it takes to install the d1sc in a f-body. If you have not already done so, I would buy the cam from them as well and you will have a great weekend toy.

Put a P1SC kit on it and call it a day. If he just wants sound and a little more power. Then you have some extra dough for the little stuff you'll want/need to go along with it.

I have the V9 G Trim and love it. It sounds like a turbo on a semi scares the **** out of everyone. I've never touched this thing since I've owned the car, its never eaten a belt or anything. I'm not sure what the other kits have but the air to water intercooler is great, its works awesome and the water cooler looks like something I could replace for 40 bucks at pep boys if it ever eats a rock, but its tucked away pretty good and hasnt been any problems. My car has headers and a catback and it made 475rwhp at 6-7psi the power is amazing. I'm not sure why everyone hates the oil pan tap, it hasn't caused me any problems and I'd rather not have to change 2 different oil systems in my car when I do oil changes. I'd highly recommend this set up as its great, but then again I haven't tried the others so take my experience as you will. Good luck man.
