Default Paxton SN2000

Has anyone had any experience with the Paxton SN2000? I found a good deal one one for my IROC (TPI setup) I have a few question about the supercharger. Can I use it with 9.4 compression pistons or do I need a lower compression ratio? How many pounds of boost can I run? I have heard 10lbs is the most and more with a intercooler? Could I have a 50 shot of nitrous with it? I will have a forged bottom end. I want my motor to run on 93 octane. Would it be a good supercharger for a pump gas street driven 406? I would like to get the car to run mid to low 10's in the 1/4 mile. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Daniel

I have no experience with the Paxton, only with Vortechs. Your 9.4:1 is an excellent starting point for a centri-blown motor. An intercooler would be best, then you can go for probably 8-10 on pump premium, more with a little alky. Get you setup stabilized, tuned and safe with the boost before playing with a 50 shot, but it's definitely possible. You will have to beef up your entire driveline to handle the power. I'm not sure that the TPI setup is going to get you where you want - even modified it runs out of airflow pretty quickly. You may need to switch to a single plane manifold for power to get you deep into the 10's.

Ok I have 64cc Trickflow heads and 9.4:1 is the lowest compression pistons I can find. What is alky? I know nothing about superchargers? My car has a 700r4 TCI built trans, I am going to get it rebuilt with TCI parts before I put the new motor in. My car has a 10 bolt rear with higher spline axles (I don't remember what spline the guy I bought it from build it) and 3.73 gears and a locker. But I plan on going with a 9inch or a 12 bolt. I am going to change the TPI set up to a TPiS mini ram intake or a Holley stealth ram they are still TPI put they make power to 6500 rpms. Do you think I could run 15lbs with a intercooler?

Alky is typically methanol injection. The Turbo Buick guys swear by it, and it is more and more common here, too. Meth is ~105 octane and also substantially helps cool the intake air as it is vaporized. So with 93 and a properly sized intercooler and meth injection as insurance, you should be able to run 15#.

But you need to learn about superchargers, tuning for boost, etc. or you are in for some major outlay of cash. And if you go that route you better find a vendor/installer/tuner that knows what they are doing and you can trust. Because there are plenty out there that don't.

I highly recommend getting Corky Bell's book "Supercharged!" and reading through the sections that apply to all your questions.

The Holley stealth ram (some call it the HSR) is an excellent choice. Would you be getting the engine control unit or using the stock piece?

Be careful with the 700R4 and 15# of boost - that is potentially getting into risky territory even for a built unit. Anything above 550-600rwhp and I would go for a built 4L80E (which I did). You see a lot of 'built' 700R4's (aka 4L60) and their electronic brothers 4L60E that break in those HP ranges.

As mentioned above, the head unit is probably not capable of making 15 pounds of boost on a 406 CI engine. Not sure what the sn2000 flows off hand, but i doubt you would see that much boost on the setup in question. I agree with Delta in that 9.4:1 is not a bad starting point for an FI engine and that if your planning on running that much boost your going to need to look into either alky/meth injection or running a higer octane fuel than 93. Intercooler is a no brainer at that level of boost unless you want to run meth/alky all of the time and even then i dont know if that would work to keep your IAT's low enough? 4L80E is a great choice however if your on a budget you can go with a TH400 to save some cash. Def on the right track though with the 9 inch or 12 bolt. Good luck with the build though and let us know what you go with.

The sn2000 won't make 10 psi on a bone stock ford 302 let alone your setup..The sn2000 will max out at 800cfm..

I think I am going to change the nitrous jet to a 200 shot when I put the 406 in and hope to run mid 10's. I would like to get my car to run like this one http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eve...oc_camaro.html

Both car and article are cool - that's a great target.

Consider a progressive nitrous controller or at least a 2-stage setup - a straight 200shot on the button is going to be super tough on that 700R4, no matter how you have it built. And even harder when you add slicks or sticky DR's.
