ported ls6 pump here. M1 10-30. Maintains 65-75psi at COLD start. Once i beat on it and its hot it drops to 38-45 psi at idle.Usually tips over 60 at WOt when hot.
I live in central Cali so no EXTREME temps here. Hot as hell in the summer 95--110* and usually lows in the 40s at night in the winter.

We run 15W40 Rotella in everything we have, works great, and its only 10-11 dollars per gallon, better to change the oil often on a high boost application where you are running rich AFR's while boosting

Man, Im pulling my hair out here. I've had the front of the motor apart more times then I want to count. The little freeze plug style restrictor just behind the timing chain cover seems to be fine. I have the correct o-ring on the oil pump pick-up tube. I installed the restrictor in the oil supply line to the turbo hoping that would help, and I still have the same issue. I crank the car up cold and have great oil pressure, but as soon as the car warms up the pressure drops off the about 15 lbs at idle, and if Im driving and let off the throttle like to come to a stop the oil pressure drops off low enough to get the check guages light.... ![Bang Head](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_banghead.gif)

Well, I ordered the $23.00 cam retainer plate. Will be here in a couple of days. Meanwhile I changed the oil and filled up with Rotella 15w-40. Man what a difference. At full running temp the pressure at idle NEVER goes below 19 lbs and hangs around 45 lbs when cruising at about 45 mph. Still gonna swap the cam plate though.

I'm really supprised at the amount of people running 15-40 Rotella, I run that in my Diesel work truck but never thought about using it in the car. Is Rotella better for turbo applications or something? You guys really have me thinking of changing to the Rotella 15-40 from Mobile 1 synthetic 10-30.

Hey Charlie, Take advice from people that live in our area and know our temperatures, 5W-30?, Shame on you..If the motor was BUILT for boost then the clearances will be looser than an NA motor, Use of 5W-30 will usually result in oil consumption. With our weather 15W-40 in the winter and yes 20W-50 in the summer. Now the craze on the use of Rotella, is it necessary? No, will it hurt anything, No. Rotella still have the pressure agents that use to be found on every oil, This created the friction needed for proper lifter to lobe wear for break in. One of the reasons that these agents were eliminated from conventional oils is because now all cam and lifters are of the roller design and so there is no break in required...

Mobile 1 15w-50 here. It still has a good amount of zinc in it at 1200ppm which is more that the new EPA guidelines of 800ppm...
Here is a good guide to Mobil 1 oils shows all there zinc levels...

Hmm think will run 10 40 synthetic likely amsoil in my 99 ta next season. Just had some mineral 5 /30 as was breaking it in and it was really cold here but obviously should be running something heavier it sounds like for the turbos and the 408. I don't think feel good about running 20/50 even synth unless it was super hot out. And it don't usually get super hot up north.
