Default speed density mode

I see alot of the guys on the holden forum are running with no MAF in speed density mode they say it`s alot harder to tune but it can be done. my question is how come you couldn`t do that in a FI setup wouldn`t that solve alot of the problems with maxing out the MAF? IS there other reasons that we don`t do this? Just curious.

1 BAR MAP sensor. it will only read to atmospheric pressure.

Add boost to that and lean, lean, lean. The MAF is the only way to read the added airflow under boost.

Ok i had just read over there that they were doing this on N/A motors just wondering why it couldn`t be done on FI motors. Thanks.

Of course it can be done we do this type of stuff frequently on the 90-93F and Y cars as they are SD engine mngmt. On the LS1 it would be foolish though as they have a decent size MAF (meaning little resitance to flow) and there is no better way of metering air. For the gain in power it would be of little or no good on a FI car. NA it would be worth a some HP.
SECONDLY THERE IS NO BIG DEAL ABOUT MAXING OUT THE MAF! This is going to happen the only table that needs to be changed is the MAX FREQ. On any FI car with any serious power maxxing out the maf will happen that does not mean that you are running out of fuel necessarily. There are other tables that will continue to add fuel even if the MAF is MAXXED out.
