Turbo questions I have been searching this site for a while but can't quite seem to find answers to all my questions, so hopefully this post will fix that. I have a 02 firebird ls1 and t-56 that I am putting in a 1972 gmc jimmy 2wd, I am shooting for about 500hp. I am building a turbo kit for it but don't know what the turbo specs that would work best for my application are. I have been told a 66/74 t4 with a 1.0a/r is what I should use. I plan on valve springs, 8.1L injectors for right now. Will the stock cam work for awhile?What size and make of wastegate and blowoff valve is recommended? I want a good all round driver that can tow a boat and be fun aswell. Where is my best place to buy these products? Thanks for your help.
There are many making over 500hp with the stock LS1 cam. But they're running like over 7 lbs of boost, just make sure you get a conservative/safe tune and you can do it. I'd think a 38mm Tial, Turbosmart, etc. wastegate would suit you well. I don't know how much those 8.1 injectors flow but sounds like they'd probably work. And a 66mm turbo should be big enough. Heck even a 76mm would work good too, no need having full boost under 3000rpms just to have fun in a LS1 car unless you're putting a $20k + setup together. Just remember the larger the turbo compared to the motor size the more lag you'll likely have. So if you want to stick at one HP level then don't overshoot you're turbo size. Also, how short will the hot size be on your turbo setup? The closer the faster you can spool throughout the band. As far as where to buy stuff, check out many of the sponsors.
