its a way to vent the gas tank so as to not build pressure. The solenoid, turns on and off depending on conditions.Everybody just leaves it alone and it works fine.

I thought it sent fuel vapors into the charcoal cannister to help with emissions? It came off my car about 3 years after I bought it with no issues. I just disabled the SES light for it. So you can run without it.

well you don't "need" seatbelts either to drive the car, but it sure is nicer knowing you're better safe than sorry. just leave it alone, they designed the car with it for a reason i'm sure.
