Default sharp edge in coupler..hamper performance?

ok i had bought a cheap ebay piping kit back when i first got my turbo on nad the other day i had a coupler off of my intercooler and noticed its smooth 90 degree on the outside but on the inside has a very sharp turn in it almost like it was molded shitty. anyways it almost looks more l shaped on the inside. how much is this hurting airflow and performance? going to be ditching them in the ext month but was just curious.

Oh meant L shaped rather than a smooth turn. Its only on one coupler but is on the turbo side of the intercooler.

need a pic to tell. But i ordered a cast 4 inch elbow for a tight spot for my procharger. the casting sucked sharp bent and unsmooth inside so i got a grinder and reshaped the inside of elbow then smoothed it out with a flap wheel on a drill. went from not fitting my hand in to being able too.

short answer: yes. kinks and sharp bends are bad and will hurt flow.

long answer: the air rides along the inner wall of the pipe, if there's a sudden discontinuity (say a very sharp turn) the air will speed straight off that surface (imagine a car driving off a cliff vice hugging the ground over the top of a hill) and into the opposite side of the tube thus hampering flow through the entire section of pipe.

Bends over 45 degrees really start to affect flow. Bends with 90 degrees or more is real bad unless the radius is equal to or greater than the diameter of the tube.

Ok thanks for the info guys. I think after work i may go ahead and pull it off and replace it with some straight couplers and an elbow pipe.Only reason i used it ,was that the area is a tight fit and the silicone elbow had a super tight bend but never noticed how bad it looked on the inside.oh well you live and you learn i guess lol
