10.DOH!! 9's > me More testing, got some intercooler data
Got to run on the track this weekend and it had some prep. Was another street event (street wars) mixed with a test n tune. Track was consistent but not super sticky so I was able to do some more launch testing. They don't hold these events very often but i'm going to try and attend the next one may 21 (temps are gonna suck ).
Changes made since last outing, removed front bumper and replaced stock SS hood with carbon fiber/fiber glass hood. Total weight savings of about 40lbs off the nose.
Got a total of 6 passes in 4 hours since there aren't as many cars which is awesome!
My two step set at 3800 launching off of 6.6 psi let me hook up every time and would net me 1.57-1.59 60's. At 3900 rpms I would leave off of 8-9psi and get 1.54-1.57 60's. 4000 rpm was 10psi and would blow the tires off. Converter would flash 1000 rpms over my two step when letting off the trans brake in 0.2 seconds, then boost would continue to build but would take 1.2 seconds to reach 15psi.
Removing the bumper (impact piece) allowed another 6" of the intercooler to receive addition airflow in theory since it was just bolted to the bumper with about 0.5" clearance between them. Jon (1320) thought there would be little difference when originally installing the intercooler 3 years and it turns out he was correct. Saw the exact same IAT gain of 40-50 degrees.
Good passes were as follows with 1.54-1.59 60's.
10.17@136
10.11@136
10.10@136
10.07@127 [1.59 60']
Last pass needs a little explaining. I upped the boost a little bit and it was too much. I had been running 15-16psi and on the last pass it spiked to 20psi, started detonating and I backed out and peddled it part throttle. Reached down and turned the controller to low boost somewhere after the 1/8 and went back to WOT. Figuring the pass was wasted I shifted to 3rd for the last 200-300 feet and eased off the gas to just drive it out.
I managed a 6.40 @ 109.7 in the 1/8 at part throttle dicking around. Data log showed I shifted at 6000 rpms from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd at 5700. I normally shift at 1-2 at 7000 and cross the line at 6700 in 2nd.
When I got to the time slip booth and looked at the slip I sounded like Darth Vader at the end of the last movie yelling NOOOOOOoooooo. Was my last pass, track closed.
It will go faster and upping the boost now makes a difference, just need more time and to get my meth setup working to control my IAT's. I also want to play with the quick spool valve and hold it shut longer to make the turbo come in quicker after the tires are hooked up. Probably have to rig up a solenoid and a hobbes switch to control the airflow to it.

I love watching this progression. White Lightning, plan to spend days doing all of his reading. I've learned a lot from you Zombie, hope to see those nine's soon.

great work again Zombie. very sorry you didn't get into the 9s. its clearly not very far away at all though!
i know this will sound stupid, but are you just after readucing IATs?? if so have you thought about a simple N2O kit? a 50bhp shot should pull air temps down a fair bit. plus you could use it along with the spool valve to get the turbo work VERY fast! just an idea i have seen used before.
Cheers
Chris.

1320 wants me to put the bottle on too, i'm just stubborn. Track is open this Friday, but I just filled the tank to the brim with 91 octane because I didn't realize it. Meth kit repair is on the short list along with the air bag. Doubt I'll make the trac friday due to the pump gas unless I just make some street boost passes.

It would be nice though.
If you just want to reduce your IATs and want something a little simpler have you thought about pre turbo water/meth injection?? i started a thread on it here. Seems like it works REALLY well!
