All I can tell you is that intercoolers are one of the things that people go cheap on and have success. I have a $200 intercooler that works just fine for me.

I'd pay attention to what it's rated for in terms of CFM and try to get the biggest core size you can fit. As long as the seller has a good rating, I'd go for it.

cobrakiller's thread inspired me to do bad things so ive been piecing together a turbo build to start here in the next couple months. i got this kit off ebay and for $240 shipped it seems like pretty nice ****. lots of people have gone pretty damn fast on them so it should work good for my goals

yeah im in the same boat tally, i started piecing my kit together as well, get this, ill be one of like maybe 10 gto's with a front mount and since i can weld, ill only have just shy of 2500 in the whole thing. for the price of a "real kit" ill have a forced fed motor and a built 4l60e. damn, got to love that. i was just told by a buddy of mine he made over 600 to the wheels on the same intercooler with the same mp t70 that i already have. hellz yeah, hes running almost two years strong now. im buyin that ebay cheapy and boosting the **** out of it.

Most IC's are aluminum. The cheaper ones, the really cheap ones, start getting rid of things like the little sub-fins (turbulators) on the fins, which makes them have less surface area and shed less heat. Or they might be the factory rejects that someone cleans up and makes look OK - I've seen ones with crappy welding, bits of rod hanging on the inside waiting to break off, etc.

Crappy ones can leak boost and are not very efficient. There are tube and fin types and bar and plate, there are hybrids of both . bar and plate is strong and can take some rock strikes.I think tube and fin is more delicate but maybe more efficient.

A good intercooler is not cheap. A cheap one might seem to work ok but as power goes up its quality will usually become more apparent especially if it blows apart from crappy construction. Some guys seem to like the cheap ones. Whatever.
