Default What headgaskets? (408ci/AFR225)

What headgaskets are you guys running with your AFR225 big bore heads? Looking for something that will be good for boost and will fit the heads. Heads need a minimum of 4.135 bore it says on the card I got with them. Had some LSX gaskets, but the coolant holes didnt line up with my 6.0 iron block.

Any info is appreciated.

Stock MLS gasket from the dealer for LS2/LQ9/LQ4 should all work. Stock bore on those should be 4.00 and the gasket ring is a little bigger. Not sure if it's 4.135 but it will work correctly.

im using the ls9 5-layer gaskets this go around and am having good luck so far (knock on wood). 408ci with AFR 225's. They are slightly "under-bored", but they've worked the best of anything i've used so far. just remember to re-tq your heads after a heat cycling to spec, and be conservative with your timing

I used ls7 and the coolant holes aren't perfect but no problems so far. I would also try the ls9 if have the heads off again and don't see retorque being necessary. Factory don't retorque the z1r head gaskets...I used arp head studs. Agree on being conservative on timing.

I have a cast iron 408 with AFR 225 heads on my twin turbo setup.

Tony Mamo told me you need at least 4.1" bore gaskets to clear the comp chambers .

I went Cometics at 4.125"

This is good to know. I really want to try the LS9's but was worried about the bore being too small for the heads. Hmmm, might have to try them.

Thanks everyone for the info so far.

Don't use LS7's if you have an Iron block that I know for sure. And I used the 5 layer GM MLS gaskets.

What is the bore of the ls9 gaskets?
And so far inspector the ls7 are working ok in my iron block.I am keeping likely low boost though for next year or so and then likely would do the ls9 or whatever.
