Default Which head gaskets for a 427, LS7 or LS9?.(

My engine has a 4.130 bore and I had LS7 gaskets on it which seemed to be working fine. I had to take the heads off because of a broken lifter and was considering putting on the 7 layer LS9 gaskets since they were made for boost. The issue is that the bore size is 4.100 on the LS9's and 4.160 on the LS7's. Would it be O.K. having a .015 overhang on the gaskets or should I stick with the LS7's?

i went with the ls9 gasket.

gm has a great 5 layer for cheap. but if it was a "great boost gasket" they wouldnt have made the 7 layer for the boosted ls9

What block you use will play a major role on gasket selection.

What if you had a L92/LS3 block?

Then you can use the LS9, which is a great FI gasket or the L92 5 layer gasket works good too.

If you have a 6.0L iron or Ls1/LS6LS2/LS3/L92 type block, I strongly advise not using the LS7 gasket, the upper coolant holes do not line up with the block.
If you have a LSX or LS7 block, then you can use the LS7 gasket, and it works pretty decent.
If you have a real large bore and you don't have the LSX or LS7 block, then a custom gasket from Cometic or Fel pro might be your best bet. You don't want to have a gasket overhanging the bore.

I am staying with the LS7's. They are 3 layer MLS and were doing the job. I did lay the LS9's on and did not like the overhang, I wish I could have used them cause they looked pretty trick.

Just grind them out to you bore size. We used to do that on our motorcycle gaskets. At one time we were a bigger bore, than anyone offer gaskets for. If interested in how to do it PM me and I can give you my # and you can call me.
