Default intercooler and front bumper support questions

ok,

I have a question, I have a pretty large intercooler, I was going to lay it flat on the bottom, but it appears that the sway bar may get in the way of that.

So my question is, are there any adverse handeling conditions to removing the front bumper support? I have herd that the bumpers get pretty flimsy, but it looks like the metal bar that holds the foam part would be needed for chasis ridgidity. is this the case from those who have done this? I would like to road race the car once done, so I was just wondering.

I am not even sure if the intercooler that I have will even fit in the front nose, but I am going to find out.

thanks
ed

What car you have?

If the nose flops around you might need to fab up some braces.

IMO keeping the stock gap between the radiator and the stuff in front of the radiator is essential to keep the car's cooling system working right. Everytime I see someone stuff an intercooler in that gap the cars run in the 220F range all the time.

I cut just cut a hole in the support and foam the same size as the front plate recess leaving the rest of the foam and support intact, no adverse handling and i do test how well the car handles quiet often.

I havent tried doing this yet, I was just wondering, with that metal bar that connects the frame rails together gone will the car sitll handle the same?

John I like your setup, but thats alot of cash. I need to see if the one that I have will work.

this is my next resort if mounting it down facing the ground wont work.

thanks

The front bumper support just unbolts and is removed. No handling change whatsoever. (Probably a little better if your cooler is lighter

actually, the front will flex more. but most people wont notice.

I built a replacement light weight(7lb or so) front support to protect my 1K$ IC, and keep my front bumper cover form sagging. I have an extra, but its for an LT1. I think the areas it contacts the front cover are the same b/w the two.
email me if interested.
