Default 5.3 w/ mp t70 or tc76??

It is a stock 5.3l with LS6 cam and good springs, victor jr. intake with elbow.
Car is an 02 hardtop camaro doing a truck manifold diy kit. The car will have a th400 will about a 3000 stall and stock 3.23 gears with alcohol injection running about 14-16psi.

Car will be mainly for fun driving and trips to the track. I am not just interested in the fastest e.t. or the most power because then this thread would be pointless as we all know which is the better turbo for that. I am not looking for a target horsepower goal or e.t. goal but a good all around turbo setup.
I have done alot of reading and so I know the horsepower limit of the t70 and the differences in the two.....just need some specific feedback with regards to use on a 5.3.

My question comes from the perspective of "fun to drive". The mpt70 will spool faster (I believe) and therefore be better on runs around town and short bursts of speed. The tc76 would definitely out pull it, but I'm afraid the lag with the 5.3L would be too much and really not be much fun to cruise around as you would have to have to much road to have any fun.
Also, there is the factor of the t70 being about $400 cheaper and so that coupled with the supposed spool time of the TC76, causes me to lean towards the mpt70.

***My question is: Will the TC76 on a 5.3 be to laggy around town for fun driving compared to a mpt70? I am trying to keep this a budget build as much as possible...I don't have cash laying around, but i don't want to skimp if the tc76 would truly not be anymore laggy than a mpt70.

Thanks, James

I had a MPT70 then upgraded to a TC78 on my 5.7 and to be honest there was no differenct in spool time.

16 psi might be pushing the T70 a bit, mine would drop a couple of psi at the top end at 13 psi, were as the TC did not.

If your happy with 550-600 rwhp the T70 will be fine, if your chaseing more go the TC76.

I'm not really chasing a horsepower number, obviously everyone wants more, but my main concern is turbo lag.

Your 5.7 is gonna have alot better torque and spool the turbo faster than my 5.3, but that is promising to hear you didn't have any difference in spool time.

Thanks for the input.

One of my buddies did this exact thing, only started with a 96 TA and lt1 with the TC76. car was laggy and not real responsive. Swap the MPT70 on it and was like a whole new car around town. Boosted much faster. Carried the MPT70 over to a 5.3 when he did the LSx swap on the car and it was a blast around town. Ran as much as 16psi with the MPT70 and stock 5.3 motor.

I have a stock 5.3/4l60 I put in my dads 72 Chevy 4x4 pickup with MPT70 w/.68 A/R. Only run it at 5 psi and he loves it. Also ran the same turbo (same .68 a/r) in my 01 GMC xcab with a forged LS1 5.7 and trapped 110mph in a #5400 4x4 truck with it. I really like the T70's

Same thing we have seen on the dyno with customers cars. No difference.....TC is a much better unit. Old P-trims and Q-trims are not designed for big cube motors.
