Cleaning intercooler?

Cleaning intercooler? I need to clean out the inside of my intercooler (got some crap in it from the blower sucking in oil from the PCV inlet line under boost). That problem is now resolved, but I still need to get the intercooler cleaned up.
I read somewhere to use a solvent, but that term covers just about any liquid. What would be a good solvent/technique to use?

I was thinking gas would work pretty well, but I hate the mess and never know what to do with the dirty stuff.
