Default DSS Racing Pistons

Guys I have been quoted a shortblock from a well repsected shop who recommends DSS Racing pistons.

www.NOT-A-SPONSOR.com.org.gov.net.edu

I have done a quick search but couldn't find anything. I would really appreciate any input.

Since they dont appear to have their own foundry for making pistons, I m guessing they are someone elses, that they machine the "x" into the skirt.

I ve built 100+ engines and never had a skirt or wall problem, so my first thought is marketing. They look like je's maybe? I searched also, but didnt look at pictures. The pictures on their site are probably taken from who ever the maker is. Lots of places, take a product, make a small change then call it their OWN. This is very very very common among crankshafts. They will buy the same china made crank, unfinished (for even cheaper) then finish the machine work to the proper journal size and radius then cal it made in usa and mark it up 500%.

BTW, only two performance piston companies have their own foundry

Wiseco and Mahle

everyone else buys 2618 aerospace grade forgings from the same foundry
with their own dies.

I'm talking, Diamond, JE, CP, Arias etc.

Do you think those are from the wholesaler most use? Or are they from a dealer like je, diamond aria, etc.....? Because , considering the volume a smaller shop would use, I doubt they are from the wholesale foundry. Probably a dealer dont you think?

FWIW, DSS is a bigger name in the Ford world. I have a friend with a 306" SBF with their pistons, and it has taken some serious abuse in the way of a 150 shot for about year, then a 6 psi supercharger setup, and now they are being fed by a T76. No issues so far, and they are at least 10 years old...

DSS is all about marketing. They also sell expensive main-cap and lifter-valley girdles and tell people it'll make the factory 302 block hold together longer. And they'll CNC a "Level 10" logo into a factory 302 block and charge hundreds more for it.

Go with a reputable supplier of LSx pistons.

More on the blue oval side of motors, but that doesnt mean they cant make a good piston for the bowtie side. I dont think theyll sabotage there products due to the rival lol.
heard tons of good stuff about there ford shortblocks but I would most likely go with a brand like Diamond or JE

thanks bob
Fords can go fast?.....lol.

i can guarantee you that their piston is every bit as good as a JE or Ross piston.. i can also tell you that they are one of VERY FEW piston manufactures that do all the machining in 1 step... that keeps QC nearly perfect.
