Default Sts Ownes any catless

I'm fixing to put an STS kit on my car. I'm debating about either gutting the cats, or putting a piece of pipe in their place.

has anyone done this?

i was thinking it would get the exhaust there faster, and keep it hotter resulting in less lag.
leaving the stock manifolds and exhaust pipe.

was just a thought to squeeze out a little more performance.

please let me know your results/thoughts.

Thanks!

Legal, no. Fun, YES! Go with No Cat if you can tune out codes and not worry about emissions. If you are in an area that checks, then go with a metal core cat which will not harm performance. As always dont forget the exhaust wrap and turbo blanket to keep heat in and spool faster.

i'm running no cats. i'v heard that when the cat(s) start getting old particles break off, flow down the pipe and causing damage to the turbine fins.. but there are some choices...
1. no cats
2. fake/gutted cat
3. run a clamped straight pipe w/replaceable cat for emission checks

i have 2 y-pipes... one with cats and one without. I only run the catted y for smog tests.

The catless y will be your best bet, both for performance and reliability.

Tell me more about the turbo blanket.

I have no worries of emissions, I live in WV they don't to much right now , and I do my own tuning.

I don't have an LS motor, but my entire kit is custom built. Here are a couple of pics in these old threads from other sites...

Save you the time of reading: The blanket is good to decrease spool time by 200 to 300 RPMS. It can make a huge difference in warmup time. You will find that STS and rear mounted systems take a little longer to get into the proper operating temps due to the length of the pipe. The blanket also protects the turbo from road debris.
