Supposedly the E85 doesn't get around the rings like the methanol either.

We run no intercooler, pt88, and as high as 18 lbs boost on the STOCK pistons of an LQ4 in Mike's mustang(See "Buddies 6.0 pt88 Mustang" build)

Our intake air temps max out the range of the sensor at 215 degrees early in the run, but that matters very little because the sensor is before the ethanol is injected.

With the NovaWagon and switching from straight methanol to E85 we saw a big difference in the intake charge temp, and with the boost and timing we could run, on the stock heads/bolts/pistons. The E85 would not cool the charge as good as the methanol, but the E85 would take more boost and timing than the Straight Methanol would.

Example, the stock motor in the Wagon barely took the 23 degrees and 15 lbs on the straight methanol(635 to the wheels) but the E85 could be run there(but only made slightly more power than at the lower timing levels) with out the little drips down the side of the block like the Methanol caused.(heads just barely lifted)

This weekend Mike's car went 9.37 @132 with a 3400 lb mustang and a stock LQ4 on E85(from the pump) at 18 lbs boost most of the run. NO INTERCOOLER. We were going to get more aggressive the next run but it broke, not the stock 6.0 liter, but the built powerglide!!(Kyle-1320Video- should be posting up the last day of Dragweek for the video of the Big Bang)

I Can post up some logs, on the boost and IATs if you want to see them, but we see no need for the intercooler with the ethanol at our power level. And the E85 is easier to tune from my experience. Wider tuning window.

Hope this helps the "original poster" out.

Awesome info! I love seeing real world proven results. Was there a point where it was detonating at all when you were trying to find the tipping point on timing?

With the E85, it shouldn't need a hit of methanol spray. But that would be a nice bonus. Or a shot of giggle gas.

where are you buying a drum of E100??

I bought the 30 lb drum myself. Then I take it to the distributor locally who supplies the E85 gas stations with their fuel. They sell me the E100 (actually denatured its about E99) straight from the storage tank. Then I mix it myself with 93 octane instead of the crappy 87 regular that the stations use. I use one of the handheld fuel meters to determine exact percentage. I end up with a blend that's about 86% ethanol (E86) and has an octane rating of about 109-110. I'm a number cruncher so I've done all the math.

what LS1 can you run on the dyno and cool your beer on the intake!!!! my E85 blow thru you can....
Your cooling down the intake with a blow thru, the injector targeting at the back of the valve wont cool the charge down as much as hosing it down from manifold top
