What gears for a roots blown Trans Am?
Car is right around stock weight (3500 without driver) after some weight reduction. Will have a little bit more here soon on the street and even more for the strip. Making 518 RWTQ with similar HP at lower RPM's. Shifting around 6200-6400 RPM's also.
The car is in the most recent GMHTP if you've seen it.
I'm looking to run a 26" tire, but can go up maybe another inch if I have to on the track.
I've heard I may run out of 4th gear with 4.10's which I definitely don't want.
What about 3.90's?
What's the best way to select gears for an FI car? I'm hoping to only do this once.
Thats one thing I don't like about supers and the twin screw types..you make monster torque at low rpm but its hard to hook that up. I prefer the way my turbos hit at maybe 3000 range but can ramp them by rpm, time, or gear so can have more chance to hook up. But do have some fun on pure street tires like have on currently new firehawk wide ovals. Glad though they aren't super expensive tires. But sometimes its fun to lay a hundred feet of rubber from a 40mph punch.

Turbo 400 has like 2.48, 1.48. 1 to 1.
my 4l80e has 2.48,1.48. 1 to 1 and .75
4l60 has like 3.06 first and t56 has like 2.66 first?
3.54 is obviously best choice with dana 60, only real choice. End of story. 4.10 or 3.73 will be a lot of gear with this type of blower. And as said you can go up to 28 inch tires pretty easily not so sure about 30 inch.
If you want more choices you need to get 12 bolt or 9 inch rear. Then you have tons of choices and 3.23 or even 3.08 could be viable options with low end grunt of that type of super.
I don't generally like to drive cars with 2 series gears much. Do see a fair amount of turbo 400 guys running 3.08s on there now. That does give them reasonable highway since they have no overdrive. Still I like my snap around town especially since most turbos dont' really start boosting till around 3000 or so. Supers like roots or twin screw can start to work their magic at like 2000 rpm...
