Default Trans Am FMIC

I would like to know people's thoughts on how much open air they think is necessary for a FMIC through the bumper. Camaros already have that huge opening but Trans Ams don't. I plan to cut out my tag slot and I am considering removing the fog lights (not sure if it's even possible to keep them).

What has everyone else done? Post pics if you can, I just want ideas.

Thanks,
Ryan

I get 65* IATs @ WOT with just the tag cut out. But this is also Alaska and our temps are 60-70 and were at sea level. Its also possible to keep the fogs!

I laid mine down flat under the bumper support. It isn't purfect, but I was getting about 20* over ambient with the ebay intercooler in the Texas heat.

i did what the two above did, except I kept my fog lights.

see link in sig. I also left the bird in the front license plate frame, however cut around it. Usually see 10-15 degrees F above ambient

I love the look of that black FMIC with keeping the fogs but I was planning on going with a bigger IC which would eliminate the fogs like the previous 2 posts.

Not a big fan of that but I will keep it in mind. Looks like it may be possible to angle it upward slightly to get more air through though.

Im getting below or right at ambient temps with my setup, bigger isnt always better! Its a Mishimoto intercooler, you can search em on ebay. They have an actual site which leads me to believe they are better than regular ebay ICs. Ive painted the white letters black now, so its totally stealth. I love my fogs!

From your other thread you are only pushing 8psi through the intercooler and looking for 500rwhp. Turn the boost up to 13 or 14 psi and aim for 700+ and I would bet your IAT's will climb a fair bit higher. I am sure you intercooler setup is more efficient than mine given that it is standing up, but given that my temps were only 20 - 25 degrees above ambient at around 700rwhp I'm not complaining.

20-25* above ambient is still pretty good! I wasnt knocking your setup at all either. I was just pointing out you dont need a big intercooler to have decent temps

What kind of IAT would you expect from an F1 at 20-25 lbs or around 1100 whp with that little IC?

I would expect you would be using A2W setup for 1100hp, atleast I would.

That huge gray insert....lol. All we have is the license plate tag, which is about a third of the size.

its plastic behind that too, if i wanna open it up the insert has to come out and I gotta CUT THE BUMPER. at least with a TA it looks normal, its tough to do a camaro that way and have it look factory. Then camaro guys have to brace the hole somehow cuz the plastic starts flexing bad past 140mph
