Default need a better understanding on wastegates and bovs

Some kind of dumb questions but I just don't know and I figure this is the place to ask...

I was told my tial 44mm wastegate wouldn't be sufficent for my setup in my sig... Is that correct? That it wont control the boost well enough

And secondly do I need a bigger bov? I've got a 38 but see a lot of similar setups running 50s what is that for performance or just sound? I can't really see it affecting performance maybe make it easier on your engine tho

Sorry for the dumb ?s just thought I'd ask

A 44mm is fine as long as it's mounted the same direction the exhaust is flowing. If you mount it 90* off the pipe the exhaust won't travel through it and you'll get boost creep.

The larger diameter the bov is the better it can hold the pressure. It shouldn't have as easy of a chance to leak. I liked my Greddy R bov. Never leaked and held 24psi on the standard spring perfectly fine.

Just remeber you will catch hell controlling 5 psi with that huge gate. But yeah u have enough gate just mount it like he said.

This would probably be a good place to ask this... I am looking at a tial 50MM or a Q and my question is what is the optimal opening pressure for the BOV they have varying pressures and I am just curios if there is a formula for figuring the best pressure to open it at?

There really is no optimal opening pressure for a bov. The name of the game is to have it open at early boost without any leaking at higher boost. Its just trial and error on how you tighten the spring. You really dont need a bov on a auto car though since there isnt alot of throttle transition with shifting and clutch work. You would have some back surge but it wouldnt be enough to hurt the turbo. Im sure others will disagree with me but the throttle stays open more so on a auto car than it would on a manual.
