Question Custom Blower/Turbo Setup help!

I am in the "planning/buying stage" of my Street (non-dailydriver) Turbo/Blower LS1 buildup. I WAS leaning towards a Custom T-76/88 Turbo setup, but after finding out that it might cost near 7-8 grand, I am thinking of going the blower route, Maybe a Procharger D2 or D3, or something. But I like the ease of adjusting boost with a button/****. Here is my MAIN question....Why couldnt I use a BOV and/or a Boost Controller (such as the Turbosmart Electronic Boost Controller) setup on a D3M (or like) Intercooled blower setup? Has this been done before? I am planning on putting down around 900 fwhp or more. Thanks in advance, and I apoligize for my ignorance if this is a "first-time boosters" question lol.....Thanks

A supercharger runs off engine RPM and is belt driven. The only way to adjust boost on a supercharger is a pulley swap. A turbo you can control through a boost controller. I like my supercharger but there are guys on here like Rob Raymer, Mightymouse and noyzee that can give you more info on the turbo side, so Ill let them chime in on that. If you have any supercharger questions Prostock or I can help you on that.

Thanks scott...I just thought there MIGHT be a way to control boost other than just a pulley swap....See, I was thinking of putting a pulley on the blower than produced say 18-21 lbs lb boost, and some how use a BOV/boost controller on the setup some how that way anything over what the boost controller was set to, blew off...Thanks again for the quick response, bud!

You can regulate the amount of boost that your supercharger provides, but this is a double edged sword: you are doing the work to produce the boost, but not taking advantage of the boost.

The boost that you provide off of the supercharged takes up about 15-20% of your HP. So if your setup is producing 20 psi, but you are bleeding it off to 8 psi you could end up with your net HP being little to no gain.

If you want a variable boost system your better off going with a turbo.

A custom supercharger setup will be less expensive though. I was able to build my own supercharger kit / intercooler / piping for $3800

D1 Supercharger
Custom Front Mount Intercooler
Custom Piping
7.85 crank drive
3.85 blower pulley
~600 RWHP
