Default Rear mounted turbo question Please

I have a rear mounted turbo set up on my 1970 camaro, Fabricated by me. I dropped in an Ls6, I went to fire it up the other day (not thinking, pulling an all niter) I hit the key just see if it would fire and it did, only for a couple seconds. I forgot to hook up the charge pipe at both the TB and the turbo. I notice that there was oil p*ssing out the cold side of the turbo where it wasn't connected. Would not having it connected cause this? Maybe something stuck in the turbo plugging up something.
Oh and it has provisions for water that was not sealed??

Thanks in advance

scavange pump not working or bad/no checkvalve from your feed line would allow oil to just pool up in the turbo as it sits.

The pump is coming on..... Check valve? Oh... Don't have one in the line, didn't know I needed one. This happened when I started the car. A check valve is something that only allows flow one way right? So I could use any check valve and not be stupid but the flow should go??

Thanks

So front mount turbo set ups don't need a check valve??

I would put a check valve on a front mounted set up too if its low. Its just good insurance. Keeps the oil from draining back down from the motor out through the oil supply line.

You want a check valve on the feed line right next to where it goes in to the turbo or oil will fill up in the turbo and leak in to the turbo. Then it can smoke on startup and get in to the cold side.

make sure you oil return pump is wired correctly, or turned correctly, Ive seen first hand the pump not being wired correctly and pissing oil. So just check that directon of flow, and wiring, You may be surprised.

AND YES! do use a checkvalve before the turbo.
