Is a BOV a necessity?

Is a BOV a necessity? I still don't have one. At 8 psi currently.
I shudder every time the wheels hit the air wall.
Did I spell necessity right? I'm **** about that crap.
Edit.....The Camaro, of course. The Talon has one, and it operates at a higher pressure than stock.

I have rarely seen a GN with one, and their turbo's seem to hold out pretty good. Plus the incon kits use ball bearing turbo's which are stronger than the small shaft turbo's that most car's use. They sure do sound cool though...

I am running at 9 psi on my Incon kit. I definetly hate to here the compressors surging if I have to get out of it (this is on an A4). If I do something it will be a bypass valve(s) and recirculate the air back into the turbochargers and not waste the compressed air. Obviously a lot more work than a blow off valve.
If I had a manual transmission I would have done it already. I know plenty of GN cars running 25+ psi with no bypass or blow off valve, of course their turbos are cheap to rebuild. The GT series are not cheap in any way.

depends...how long do you want to wait before a rebuild? its just like a turbo timer...you don't need one, but it helps. always nice to let the turbo spool down before turning the engine off.
