Default maximum safe rpm of stock internals??

there is a guy over on theturboforums running a 4.8 wth a t88 to 7200 rpms with nothing but rod bolts.

that sounds a little high to me.

what is considered the maximum safe rpms for these motors in a boosted application?

ive seen a few people running around for a long time on 600rwhp but they dont take the car much, if any past about 6k. Seems like once you push past 6k rpm with boost, things start to let loose, but underneath 6k the motor seems to last a good while.

I always pushed my stock 346 to 7200. Granted it was not on boost, but I was spraying 200shot in top of it. I must have ran it like that with the MS3 in it for 3 years, driving it almost every day and playing with it all the time. I put the spray on it when the warrenty went out at 36000 miles, and I put my 408 in at 88000. The 346 was still in great shape when I took it out. But I think the 4.8 has different rods in it doesn't it?

I have never pulled the pan, I bought the car new in 02 and ran it stock until the warrenty ran out at 36000 miles. I then put the cam and springs in it and the 200 shot of nitroius, tuned it and ran it like that until I had 88000 miles on it. I built a 408 for forced induction reasons and pulled the engine out. It had no issues when I pulled it. The only thing I changed was the cam, springs, pushrods, and timing chain. Nothing else.

Again, I think the rods and pistons in a 4.8 are not the same as the 346.

I spun 7800 plenty times with my last setup. I shifted at 7500 this was on 4.8 it still made power up there so reason for Rev high. I pulled motor apart and it looked new. No signs of distortion or cap walk. Motor lived at 16 psi for close to 7 k worth of miles. I pushed 20 psi thru same setup as well. At 20 psi I was over. 800 rwhp with arp rod bolts and stock head bolts. Turbo was a pt88 can was 230/236

Yeah, 6K for me also. You would at least want to improve the valve train to go much higher than that.
