I used 4032 on the original.
I have 2618 pistons in it now, it has 138,000 miles now with at least half of those pulling a trailer. This engine is using about one quart of oil in 1500miles, not something I'm fond of! I will try and take it apart in the next year and see why, but I suspect my ring side clearance is getting loose.

I've been more than happy with my motor. Looking forward to the next build but with the LSX block.

Thank you Kurt!

I'm making sure this isnt a typo "138,000" miles in about a year?

Sorry, was miles after the 107,000 of the original post. It is at 139,000 right now with a trailer on its back! So this engine has 32,000 miles on it in just under a year. Over 20,000 with enclosed trailer attached.

154,000 miles now, this engine installed at 107,000 and I broke another lifter! This time it was cylinder 2 ex. Right now I need my truck so no pictures until I pull it apart.
I think the heavy towing with this engine did it in. I moved from Mi to NC and kept driving it across the mountains pulling the trailer loaded. This time I will be adding an oil cooler, and I might change the ci a bit.

Kurt, I have a very similar build. What are your thoughts on a torque converter? I'm currently running a stock 80e. I want a bigger stall, but then I still want to be able to tow occasionally as well....

For those that passed 2nd grade and know how to read dates, yes, I am aware.

Thank you
Eric

Eric,
I’ve had a few different converters over the years, but none have been great. When towing it will sometimes slip the converter when I use a higher stallspeed converter. The higher stalls use smaller components and the clutch doesn’t seem like it has enough holding power. I have 170,000 miles on it now and just put a stock converter back in it as the next drive it does will be into Texas from NC pulling the trailer. When the converter clutch goes bad it normally hurts a bunch of other stuff. The most recent one wrecked the front pump.

It’s been sittings in NC since I moved, (about a year) my kid crashed it 6 days before we moved into Texas!
