boost question!
i have a cammed ls1 that i want to put a turbo on. i was told that if i throw boost on the cam that i have in now i would only get half of the air inside the motor as to if i would put in a smaller cam with a larger lsa. i was just wondering if it is ok to do this with this cam. tsp 238/252@50 600/605112lsa
It would work, but wouldn't be ideal. There's more to be had to maximize the setup with a more turbo oriented cam. You may see as much as a 30-50rwhp difficiency depending on how the setup works together.
Need more info...What are your goals? Will it be daily driven? Are you upgrading the valvetrain? how much boost are you running? Ideally the lowest you should go LSA wise is 114....If you're going to do something do it right.
basically what he was getting at, with a 112 lsa both valves will be open at the same time for longer than a much higher lsa. for the time that both valves are open the compressed air will be bleeding out through the combustion chamber and into the exhaust without ever being burned.
for a turbo application this will hurt spool and possibly limit the amount of boost achievable. Not optimal but theres not reason you cant try it, I would. If you decide later youd like to change it then by all means, go ahead. BUT, during the turbo install is a great time to swap cams you might think about that

Here is a discussion I started up that maybe can help you with choosing turbo cams.
