budget build boosted camaro
so I've been researching until my nose bleeds here for the last week or so, kicking and screaming like a child
my initially stated goal was 450whp from a 2000 camaro A4, full accessories, emissions, 100% street driven.
but as I research I'm finding that boost is not only a viable option to achieve this, but quite possbily the BEST option to achieve still more power.
so I'm talking budget and I got a buddy trying to convince me to run this setup, let's see what ls1tech has to say.
AES 390 iron short block
GM LSA heads
(a cam that is yet to be determined..)
Fast 92/92 OR 102 OR stock ls3 intake (we disagree here. I'm liking the fast intakes but he's saying stock ls3 should work and cost less..)
jakes 4L80E
moser 12 bolt OR 9 inch OR S60 (no preference yet..)
STS or other remote turbo kit, or, if viable a FM turbo kit. (I was dismayed when I found out aps wasn't making their twin turbo kit anymore for this car..) OR a magnusson supercharger from MTI OR procharger.
lots of choices/generalities here I know.
tryin to get the best bang for my buck, best streetability and emissions.
I'm a total noob to all this, still trying to figure it out, so certainly if you have another route in mind tell me. I'm all ears here.
I'm not good on custom work, so if you're gonna suggest a make-your-own turbo-kit I'm all ears, but I'm going to need the name of a reputable shop here in Atlanta that can help me with that heh.
What are you doing as far as fueling goes?
Cam wise I had read a lot of good things on here about the brute speed epp cam? which, from what I gather is a comp cam I assume that brute speed has custom ground.
There was some question however if this cam was A. too aggressivce for street (I listened to some youtube clips of it, I don't think it is honeslty.. I like the way it sounds.) or B. emissions friendly.
Here in GA (correct me if I'm wrong GA guys) we don't have a "sniffer test" just fuel tank evap test and the ODBII data port testing.
I mean I have a running 2000 camaro Z28 right now that has piston slap and a few other engine noises and a 4L60E that doens't like to shift 1-2 and likes to cut out on heavy throttle, so.. I'm planning to visit the fuel system, engine, transmission, driveshaft and rearend eventually, but I'll run what I can for as long as I can to try and split this project up a bit.
What I'd LIKE to do, and you guys have all been here i'm sure.. start with a lower power number, then start wanting more over time heh.. I want to start off with a good solid foundation and cheaper/lower power like this, then, if I'm not happy, be able to up the performance with a bigger turbo, ic, a different pulley if I'm s/c'd or some upper end work. I don't want to be maxing out my bottom end I suppose is the best way to say it.
what would you recommend for fueling? I was reading up on nasty performance, but I'm not certain I'm going to need a twin pump config or anything like that at first.
