I recommend going with the ProCharger D-1SC pn# 1GJ204-SCI. This is the upgraded 8 rib belt system with the upgraded 4.5" twin intercoolers. The D-1SC works awesome at 8 psi for stock engines and also work great at higher boost levels. At the old shop we had a Corvette 346 at 16 psi of boost with a D-1SC/740 rwhp running on a road course for several hard seasons. The pn# 1GJ204-SCI requires additional parts such as an aftermarket harmonic balancer, fuel injectors, fuel pump, etc and I have put together a complete system that can be seen at this link. http://shop.brutespeed.com/ATI-1GJ20...-Speed-Kit.htm

A lot depends on how much power you want to make. I've had both the P1SC and a D1SC and I should have just bought the D1 to begin with. Instead I had to do it twice because I bought a used head unit that was too small and couldn't handle the motor I built behind it.
The D1SC isn't really much more expensive than the P1 and it really is a much better head unit. My D1SC at 13 psi puts out cooler air than my old P1SC at 9 psi.

The p1sc treated me excellent. Very perdictible powerband, and after owning it for a couple years, the only times I have had to touch it... was to change the oil in it.
But, When you want to make more power.... It starts falling behind at 500-650rwhp.
But, as everybody else in this thread has said. Start with the D1. I think its like a extra 300$ or something. Works more efficient as well.
500hp for the d1 will be easy. Im aiming to make 600rwhp with the p1 as soon as all of the parts arrive...

If you're building a 402 it will be hard to only make 500 hp. Hell you could make 500 N/A with that size motor. Why build a 402 and get a blower if you aren't aiming for more? You can do 500 all day long on a stock motor with a blower at 8 psi. 8 - 10 PSI on a 402 is a lot more air that on a 346. You should easilly be in the 600's with that combination.
